Is he his own experimental "new guitar sounds that sometimes work and sometimes dont" Sound lab?? I can see there is talent there but i just dont get what his doing?? Is it just me or is some of his style terrible???!! Please explain!!! :? :? :? :?

Articulation and the ability to put more expression into one note than pretty much anyone else can put into a 13 song album.
Why he's the guitarists guitarist.

And I understand where the OP is going with Jeff Beck. It took me a while to really get into what he does and I still only like maybe 1/2 of his stuff, but no doubt the guy is very talented.

Blues Deluxe has always been my favorite song of his. Bonamassa covered it really well and it is based on BB's Gamblers Blues.

Fair call too true, I cannot understand why people would listen to it when there is SRV CD's in this world, I think this guy is just all about tecnieque, Although he may be brilliant, It's sounds compltelely lacklustre and over complicated to me. But then (not as bad as Jeff Beck) and with ten times the instrument mastery i think Steve Vai "can" come across to complicated and lacking feel some times.

But SRV can be very very dull to some ears. I just don't get the repetetive phrases.

Beck made sense in the Yardbirds and during his "Truth" phase. He was brilliant while fronting Beck, Bogart & Appice. After that......?

PFFFFFFFFFFFT!

Let him, Vai, Yngvie, and Satriani go play with themselves.

Arjay

SRV is great and all but I get bored listening to him. He is really just burning scales and that gets boring. Again, different strokes. Steve Vai is a guitarist who appeals to me none. Nothing he does interests me or warrants a listen, but I do respect his ability.

Who do you listen to, who are your favorites?

I've been a Beck fan since his Yardbird days and then through his Jeff Beck Group period where he did studio work with such notables as Donovan.I wore out my copies of Blow By Blow on album and cassette. His more avant garde work may be over the top for some but if one who wasn't well acquainted with Beck were to give Blow By Blow a listen and hear his excellent 'Cause We Ended As Lovers,She's A Woman and Freeway Jam they may come around quite a bit with their opinion of him.Beck is probably the most precise and disiplined guitarist on the planet and that's a large part of what makes him great.
