last summer i had a whale of a time getting out of best buy without purchasing an extended warranty. after 20 minutes of arguing, i told the kid to drop the subject, or i'll buy elsewhere.

the last 2 times i went to guitar center, the same thing happened. i bought a vox ad40+ (which went back because of issues), and the other day a tc polytune. both times the same story- saying "no" was not an option. i didn't buy the warranty either time.

i got a peavey envoy amp to carry around easier when playing with friends. i ordered it thru sweetwater. i was told to go online and register the warranty for an extra 3 years of coverage- made me happy.

what do you guys think? do you get the extended warranty always-sometimes-never?

If the company builds a good product then it should last way beyond 2 years, if not then I will not buy it. Extended warranties are a comple waste of cash imho. Do the research and then you won't have to buy insurance.

Most extended warranties are just another money grab by the manufacturer or the retailer. The truth is that if anything is going to go wrong with a product it will most likely do so within the first year-which is usually covered by warranty anyway.I usually buy a warranty with anything I buy at the Source electronics store(Cdn Radio Shack) as their warranties are cheap and no hassle.I bought an outdoor antennae for my satellite radio at Source and got the extended warranty.The antennae gave out after 18 months and they replaced it no questions asked,I didn't even need the receipt as they had my warranty info on file in the store's computer.The warranty covers you for up to 3 replacements during the 3 year warranty period.
When I buy amps etc. I just rely on the straight manufacturers warranty or use one of my credit cards that automatically doubles the manufacturer's warranty.

Forget the extended warranty on any 5 year fender product. It's better than any extended warranty.

For $70 I get the warranty from my local Sam Ash only because the price of a set up is $40. They change my strings for free which I know I can do myself, but they also check the neck and make any adjustments it may need. If the guitar needs any other work its included. The warranty is for 2 years so I feel its worth getting.
