Come on now. I know these lists are always subjective and no one every agrees with them 100% but, come on. if these are the top guitarists of over the past 30 years that would be from 1981 to current. let's be real, this list is a joke.

copied from TGP:

Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante has been voted the best guitarist of the past 30 years.
Frusciante, who left the group in 2008, beat Guns n' Roses star Slash, Muse's Matt Bellamy and Johnny Marr of The Smiths to the top spot.
Prince, Jack White, Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood and REM's Peter Buck were also in the top 10. But Noel Gallagher, The Edge and Kurt Cobain missed out.
Some 30,000 people took part in BBC 6 Music's Axe Factor online poll.
6 Music breakfast host Shaun Keaveny said of Frusciante: "His range, from minimalist melody lines, through choppy Hendrixian chord voicings all the way up to 11 with wailing metal tinged blues, gives him the edge over many in the list. For that I salute him."
Fellow presenter Steve Lamacq said the list proved that "you have to be a little unhinged to be a true guitar hero".
"There's an underlying madness about their work, but with the renewed interest in these guitarists, thanks to various computer games, this is a very timely and revealing litmus test of who our audience really admire," he said.
Frusciante released his 10th solo album last year and is also part of the band Swahili Blonde with Duran Duran bassist John Taylor and vocalist Nicole Turley.

AXE FACTOR TOP 10
1. John Frusciante - Red Hot Chili Peppers
2. Slash - Guns n' Roses
3. Matt Bellamy - Muse
4. Johnny Marr - The Smiths
5. Tom Morello - Rage Against The Machine
6. Kirk Hammett - Metallica
7. Jonny Greenwood - Radiohead
8. Prince
9. Jack White - White Stripes
10. Peter Buck - REM

I'm gonna go there and be that person, but John Frusciante is probably in my top 3 guitarists of all time and pushing for the top spot. I just love his work.

hey nothing wrong with being a fan of his at all. he does have some good works for sure, but best guitarist since 1981? Think about all the guitar players there has been since then.

No I totally understand where you're coming from in this case, and of course this category is almost impossible to judge and make everyone happy.

John Frusciante has been one guitarist that has always inspired me, but a big part of that was me growing up with RHCP which I really found a connection with. I just love the way he picks his chords and notes out without feeling the need to play at a million miles an hour. However I can totally understand how other people wouldn't rate him as highly as I do :)

He's definitely one of my favourites.
James Dean Bradfield is another person who I'd like to see make these lists more often.

Sorry but I'm glad Frusciante is in front of such guitarists like Matt Bellamy and Jack White.
It's sad to see Prince not in the top 5. I'm okay with Slash. Tom Morello 'invented' a new way to play guitar he should be in the top 3.

But yeah, it's impossible to be subjective, everybody has it's own tastes and favorites.

Other than Prince, none of the guitarists from that era stand out to me. You could put any of them as #1 and it wouldn't really make a difference to me.

.

Jack White doesnt even belong on this list at all, especially with names like EVH, Bonamassa, Mayer and countless others not on it. ASside from having a small fanbase that thinks he is a genius and maliciously covering a Son House song, what has Jack White done?

Lets put this in perspective. We didn't even have Hot For Teacher yet in 1981. Surely EVH has influenced more guitarists in the past 30 years than any of the guys on this list.

John Frusciante is one of my favourites, if not my favourite guitarist. But I don't think he's the best guitarist in the last 30 years. Obviously this is one of those things which is subject to everybody having their own preferences, but in my opinion I think there have been far too many awesome guitarists in the world from 1981 til now to pick one definitive "best". For instance there might be some unknown session guy out there who is the best in the world, or something like that.

Who knows :)

I think Frusciante is definitely in the Top 3 of guitar players 1980 and later. Maybe the best, IMHO.

I really do want him to return to the Peppers. The band isn't the same without him. That's a testament to what a great player he is.

What about David Hole? I just found out about him...he seems to be a great guitarist.

hahahaha...that's an awesome list...I thought I was reading a joke at first. How is Frusciante even close to the top of list? I mean I like the chili peppers, but what has he done that's new or original? Put way too much overdrive on and play some funk riffs, that he probably got from tabs? Slash, Hammett and Prince should be the only ones on that list. And I agree with BCB, EVH is probably the most influential guitarist of the last 30 years, and my question is how the hell did Jack white make the list? I've never even heard him play a guitar that was in tune.
Oh yeah, where is Dimebag on that list? That man did things with a guitar that most musicians could never dream of playing.
That being said, I hate lists like that, all they do is look at album sales from each band and put the guitarists name on the list. /rant

Slash could play circles around Frusciante, Bellamy, and Greenwood. And Jack White?
BTW...I'm not talking about Slash with Velvet Revolver (still better guitar work than Frusciante has ever considered being able to do) I'm talking about slash Circa 1987 and the GnR days. Might be a little before your time.
