Hey Floyd...The Hot Rod would probably be a great amp for you, however, considering that you use pedal distortion. I still the the DRRI is the better amp for you.

An effects loop is great for modulation(phaser, chorus...etc.) but when it comes to tube amps and overdrive, I would always put the o/d on the front end. Gives you more ability to push the preamp and get some nice tones. And since the DRRI has reverb, I wouldn't expect that you'd use the effects loop too much playing punk...just my opinion...hth

edit...I put that quote up there for a reason and never referenced it. My point with that was that of course he's gonna tell you the hot rod will be a better amp for you, he's trying to sell you one. I know you're a younger guy, and I'd hate to see you get stuck with something you really don't want, cause somebody wants to sell you something different. The Hot Rod amps sound awesome, but I don't think it's really a punk machine.

+1 for the Deluxe Reverb. With tremolo and reverb built in an amp you may not need chorus.

As far as effects loops and bells and whistles (though I thought it was for a guitar), them things only make amps sound worse. Look at all the legendary guitar sounds on record, not a effects loop in sight. If ever your concerned about tone suck [sic] theres the biggest cause of it. Right at the point where you can do little about it. Valve driven or not, their the single worst inclusion to guitar amplification in 30 years.

Why playing punk are you worrying about a polychorus? A perfectly useless effect for that style. Tremolo or phaser I could understand, chorus.... no. It will take all the body out of your sound.

i play punk/noise rock/grunge (yes yes blanket term, different bands etc i know...).... the poly chorus has some seriously awesome settings to just plain change your tone or to give insane feedback, etc

Floyd, you don't need an effects loop.Effects loops just suck out the tone of your amp especially the treble.Musicians did quite well for decades without effects loops and I have yet to hear one -no matter how good it's touted to be-that didn't rob the tone.An amp without an effects loop would be a plus to me.Two of my amps-a Marshall 4210 and a Vox AD120VTH have what are supposed to be great effects loops but I never use them because even these "good"ones rob the tone.
