I really enjoyed the doc. I think they could have chosen 2 other players more fitting than Jack White or the Edge. Neither of them really impress me too much. The Edge I guess was a better choice than White but not by much. I just can't get into Jack White's music or his style, let alone the moniker his fans give him as some "new school blues god". Overall the movie was very good though. I just imagine what it would have been like had they chosen Joe Bonamassa and someone like Robert Cray, or hell even John Mayer and someone else rather that White and Edge.

As much as I wish they'd have selected joe Bonamassa instead of Jack White to represent the "younger" generation, I think Jimmy Page might have hesitated doing the film...I've been a staunch Zeppelin fan for decades, saw them at MSG in NYC in 1977, but...well, let Joe's fingers do the talking...pay serious attention from about the 5 minute mark...and fasten your seat belts.

 NICE! Thanks for sharing that Bob. I have it playing on my other browser window as we speak. Bonamassa is definitely my favorite blues player right now.

In this opinion, "It Might Get Loud 2" would be a great idea.

How about...Keef, Knopfler and Fogerty for a "different flavour" lineup?

Or...Malmsteen, Ry Cooder and Buddy Guy?

And then, maybe a bassy "It Might Get Low"...?

gotta have one legend, one from the middle generation and one new school guy...dont have to but thats the formula for the first one

Yup, it was pretty good.
I'm not a Jack White fan and I've listened to 2 or 3 CDs he's put out. Maybe 1 or 2 songs but that's bout it. I like Edge and I understand the doc is an attempt to show 3 generations of rock guitarists but I felt they could have picked 2 other guys to be with Jimmy Page. Who just stole the movie as far as I was concerned. He reminds me of that Russian quote by Winston Churchill .."a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma ..."

Yes, "The Wrecking Crew" is a great doc too!

I thought "It Might Get Loud" was great. Didn't like "The Edge" that much. I'm just not into the whole echo effect thing. Don't shortchange Jack White. I never thought I'd like him, but he's pretty raw and organic. Very cool video. If you ever get a chance, check out "The Wrecking Crew" to find out what musical geniuses were behind all those great songs of the 60'and 70's and I'm not just talking about the Monkees either.

I agree, I didn't think the Edge was up to the illustrious company that he had. Jack White plays in a very natural way and Jimmy Page is Jimmy Page. I love U2 but I think the Edge was out of his league here. The part where he has them doing "I will Follow" which is one of the most basic two note riffs of all time was ridiculous in comparison to what jack and Jimmy were doing. I think they should have had someone of the caliber of Joe Bonamassa or Joe Walsh or anyone with a Guitar pedigree that extends beyond effects. Also, I think he was the only one who had his Guitar tech there.

I agree - I LOVE that scene - both of them must have practiced that riff countless times when they started playing

On a totally off the guitar page tangent and addressed to the americans on this forum:

What is that classic car Jack White drives around in in the film?

I am not familiar with the US classic car scene at all...

Thx

I sought the film out on Netflix last night and thouroughly enjoyed it.

I guess I had the opposite reaction form everybody else...I consider Zeppelin to among the top of the rock & roll pantheon as a group, and have great respect for Page as the genius who brought it all together and drove that train, but I've always been underwhelmed by Page the guitar-player...his chops just never moved me all that much. Of course, if Mozart were a lousy harpsichord player...he'd still be frikkin' MOZART. My respect for Page the creative force was reinforced by the film.

Jack White is Jack White...I know he's no eddie Van Halen...that's why I love him.

I'm a little surprised, however, by the comments writing off The Edge as a stomp-box $@!$.
I'm no U2 fanboy, but I do remember that The Edge is almost single-handedly responsible for creating the sound that made U2 one of the most respected GROUPS of the last 30 years...a band that sold a ton of records and influenced a ton of musicians. There's more to making music than impressing a bunch of guitar geeks with masurbatory solos. The Edge is a band guy, not a guitar hero...

I have the DVD and have watched it 3 times. I also remember being bewildered with how they came up with these three players, but it really worked out nicely. As you have three guys all coming from different directions-Page the Guitar God, The Edge slick productions and heavy on the effects and White- bare bone and raw. I really enjoyed it all, and though Iam not a huge fan of the Edge it is not that easy to be able to come up with all those parts playing so sparsely and having complete control over all those effects. I would of just of liked to have seen if their was more to him than meets the eye like Andy Summers. I can remember when the police were huge a lot of players thought of him in the same vein as the edge. And it was not until the police broke up did it come out the guy is an accomplished jazz player who can solo for days.

That Wrecking Crew documentry now has my juices flowing as that is a must see. Their is also another one on Jason Becker coming out that I am dying to see. Pbassbob do you remember what night you saw Zep on that tour lol. I was their the 4th of the 6 nights.

I am still listening to Bonamassa doing Tea for One as I do not know how I missed this, but it is amazing. Not to stir up any nonsense controversy but how can anyone even try and put Mayer in this kids league as a soloist.

I have the Wrecking Crew. Someone gave me a copy. I have no idea where he got it from.
I'd also like to see Jason's documentary. I never found Mayer to be either talented or original. Just another "pretty boy" with guitar. The boy gets more arse than a toilet seat at Grand Central Station. I thought Mayer's performance with the trio at Crossroads Guitar Festival just marginal. Wonder if he was high or something. I never liked him and like his trio stuff even less. I like Bonamassa a lot.

I liked that the Edge and Jimmy were down to earth.......Jack to me came across as image conscious and tradgically hip . Now he is blues player from the 40s trapped in a white guy in a David Lynch movie with a little kid dressed like him. The others didn't get all theatrical. He plays simple blues licks with a $@!& ton of overdrive with crappy guitars. The theatricks put me off honestly Mr White was a disappointment.
I would've rather seen the dude from the Black Keys, Tom Morello, Josh from Queens of the stone age. Better yet Tony Iommi.
I am not a big U2 fa n but he has influenced a lot of players just put the modern rock clear channel station on Good or bad the influence is there. Coldplay and Kings of Leon come to mind.

We may all pick a different bunch or not like one or the other but I enjoyed it and learned some things I may wach it again tonight ....just my 2cents

I wouldn't either but that's the label a lot of folks have put on him and for the life of me, I have no idea why!
