So just a heads up to anyone that has netflix on their computer or game console, there is an awesome documentary on there called "It Might Get Loud". The producers of the film gathered together Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White (whom I have now learned are all pretty much at complete different ends of the spectrum; as to how they approach the guitar) and sits them down for a discussion about guitars and music in general, and some impromptu jams. I really enjoyed this documentary, and thought I'd suggest it to anyone who hasn't had the chance to check it out.

'Bought the DVD when it came out.

Truly excellent documentary on the cult / culture of those drawn to the electric guitar.

I thought "It Might Get Loud" was great. Didn't like "The Edge" that much. I'm just not into the whole echo effect thing. Don't shortchange Jack White. I never thought I'd like him, but he's pretty raw and organic. Very cool video. If you ever get a chance, check out "The Wrecking Crew" to find out what musical geniuses were behind all those great songs of the 60'and 70's and I'm not just talking about the Monkees either.

I got the DVD too. Great documentary, I liked Jack White too because of his attitude towards music (is it "organic" the buzz word these days). I loved he single string on a 2X4 noise maker and his 500 year old out of tune piano. Bottom line is who cares if you create the right ambiance for the right sound.

Edge well, himself simple and into the signal processing NASA science. You can control sound and fly the space shuttle with his foot controller.

Last but not least Jimmy Page and his "so cool and quiet" persona. Jimmy is a big puzzle for me can't get a "pulse" on this guy.

I really enjoyed the doc. I think they could have chosen 2 other players more fitting than Jack White or the Edge. Neither of them really impress me too much. The Edge I guess was a better choice than White but not by much. I just can't get into Jack White's music or his style, let alone the moniker his fans give him as some "new school blues god". Overall the movie was very good though. I just imagine what it would have been like had they chosen Joe Bonamassa and someone like Robert Cray, or hell even John Mayer and someone else rather that White and Edge.

If Mayer was in it I wouldn't have watched it. The three chosen IMO were original. I really don't care for The Edge or U2 for that matter. Not that they're bad, it's just not my thing but original. I think White was okay in the film. I wouldn't call him any "new school blues god", but he is raw, original, and interesting. I never paid attention to Black before this film. As much as I like Joe Bonamassa, he's too sort of Eric Johnson for that particular film. I love his tone, talent and style, but just not with Page for some reason. It's a shame Willie Dioon Isn't still alive. I would have been cool for him to ask Page why Led Zeppelin thought they could rip off his stuff and get away with it? LOL I agree Robert Cray would have been great in this film, but only replacing the "Edge" instead of White.

I know, it's like they were sitting at God's feet for a minute. I'd probably have the same reaction.

No problem man...It was an awesome film that I think any guitarist should take the time to watch. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The Edge actually was the one that I thought was substandard too. He just let's the effects boxes play for him. Doesn't require much talent to do it that way. And Jack White surprised me a little, while I can't stand his music and I wish he'd tune his guitars, but I do admire the way he approaches music in general, just not a fan of his style. I think I'm gonna build a little crude guitar like he did at the beginning of the film. I think it'll be fun, and I have a cheapo P-90 that I've been looking for a use for.

Think I'll look around for "The Wrecking Crew" thanks, Supro for the suggestion.
