I was in Reid Music a little while ago and they had Fender Super Bullets 8-38 Nickel Plated on sale for $3.00 a set,so I bought 4 sets.Last night I put a set on my Tele and they sound great but feel more like 10s because they are so stiff. I usually use D'Addario 8-38 nickel wound.I haven't used Bullets for over 20 years and used to use Fender 150 SL 8-38s years ago but they went dead fairly fast so I switched to D'Addarios. It's a pity that the Bullets are so stiff as they are really bright but are brutes to bend.I imagine Fender must use a different formula of alloys that make the strings significantly harder to bend. It's surprising how much the same gauge strings can vary so much in feel between brands.

Are they from the old stock or the new packaging ones?
I am using currently silver box bullets 10-46 and they feel loose as eb 10-46 slinkys

I believe that they were older stock they were selling off, either way they weren't tarnished or anything and sound great-very bright and full sounding but they're devils to bend compared to D'Addarios and Ernie Balls of the same gauges.

I have been using both the Pure Nickel Bullets and Super Bullets for 5 years. Even with the recent "new" packaging, they feel the same to me. And I agree, they do feel and sound like D'Addario's to me as well. That is the reason I use them, same sound and feel and Bullet ends to fit more snugly into the tremolo blocks of my Fenders.

One of my Strats seems to really like those ones and stays true (in tune) even with moderate to heavy trem abuse.

Been using D'Addarios for years... now I'm using Super Bullets on my Dlx and I really like 'em, close to D'Addarios but seem to last longer and I actually find 'em easier to bend :? Not sure about 8s, been using 10-52 and just put a set of 11s yesterday and will probably stick with those.

Bullets only work on modern blocks, I put a set on a "vintage" block and they sounded horrible! So it's 3250 for the Dlx and 250 for the other Strats... I also got a set of 150 (pure nickel) to try next on my Classic 60s Strat.

I hate Fender strings! Definitely feel like bargain basement strings to my fingers. I gave them many chances when I was younger, but they wear out quickly and are way more prone to breakage than any set of Ernie Ball strings I've used. Sorry Fender, but your strings suck...

Perhaps give em a chance again, in the recent packaging update they had a product improvement, I believe. I use 10-46 bullet ends and unwound strings feel like eb slinkys (coated with something). I usually get whatever is on sale between EB, D's, and Fender. This last set of Fenders felt really good and lasted quite a bit longer than I remember in the past. Also when I installed them, I don't know if has to do with my installation or the strings material but they settled very quickly without too much stretching/tugging similar to EB'. D'addario's usually require a much more of a workout before they settle.

Interesting. I didn't know they did any kind of upgrade. Sadly for them, they didn't upgrade early enough though, and I'll stick to my Super Slinkies.

+1, IMO, Fender hasn't made a good string since the early 70's. D'Addarios or Dean Markley work for me.

I think that one of my original statements was taken out of context.I said that I found Fender Super Bullets "much stiffer and harder to bend"than the same gauge D'Addario strings.Fender must use a different formula of alloys that causes this difference in feel as the 8-38 Super Bullets are to my fingers as hard to bend as D'Addario 10-46s.

I had the same issue with the fender super bullets on my vg strat. way too stiff for bending. they were stiffer than the 10s on my Gibson. So I switched them out for EB slinky 9s and now the strat plays much better -- like it's supposed to. whatever fender puts in those strings -- they don't do it for me! EB strings -- that's the ticket.
