Neat! 8) Then if there's anyone out there with the wrong ideas in their head they'll be giving up round about now. So the rest of us can get down to having some good clean fun with this thing.

TGS, what you need to do now is spend the rest of this thread sorting out your ideal guitar. What is right for you, not what any of the rest of us think you should go for. When you've settled on some specs - well then I suspect things might sort themselves out for you in a happy sort of way.

Right guys? :D

We're all watching with interest.

Cheers - C

I am in, on this one. TGS has to come up with the design and let us know what parts are missing from the list. Can you say "custom fender forum shop"?

well why not just put down a few hundred on an Epiphone semi-hollow. Do some gigs with that, save up the money and use it to upgrade the Squire? Now, I'm no expert on neck switching and pickups, but from what it sounds like you'd spend alot of money on upgrading rather than buying a guitar you really want. From people that I know they love the tone on the Epiphone semi-hollow. But that's what I would do, invest in a new guitar. Play some gigs with it, put the money away to buy the upgrades for your Squire.

It is still a Squier, as Niki points out Pro level gear is a must if you are serious, it is difficult enough to make it in the entertainment business and as it is in many other avenues, First Impressions do matter greatly.
You eventually have to be able to walk the talk...Equipment which is passable for home/band rehearsal does not work at the pro level where you are expected to perform at a high standard.

Anyway this project is going to be fun for all of us involved.... Care to join in :?: 8)

Gladly! Always here to help a fellow forum member

TGS,
Get your list of parts you are needing and I'll see what I can do. Also provide PO box or something similar to send it to. If you are tight withe the manager or owner of your work, perhaps we could send it there as well. I have a bunch of parts laying around or I can send new parts your way as well.

Lounge-O-Caster-- I like it. Just don't forget the project pics as well.

I'm in on the Lounge-O-Caster. My technical expertise stinks, I have no parts to donate, but I think I could float a couple of bucks to the cause..... 8)

I like the name TGS Lounge-O-Caster......sound to me like a world class guitar

I've not got any bits lying around either, but I'll gladly paypal someone a few quid to go towards nobs or screws or string strees or something along those lines.

I read this forum the other day and i was so humbled by your love for guitars that i was touched and considered suggesting the same as has been suggested that we all chip in and help out for you to build your dream custom.

I am new here so i did not know if everyone else watching would have shared my sediments so i sheepishly said nothing

I'm in, My expertise is limited in comparrasion to the guru's in here but to help a young girl with that much passion, I would be proud to help, I love texas specials too!!! Cause of my old man surfer wish i could play like SRV style!!  But what ever pickups you decide on lass i'll buy them for you!!! I look forward to participating!!!

Really guys, wow. I'm still blown away. :D

I did a little research into how much something like this would cost, and while it's still well under a grand, it's a little more than I originally thought. Even if you guys banded together for a Fender Forums neck, that would still be more than enough and I'd still be very grateful. :)

Well, here's my general idea. I'm going on that Guitar Center Fender playing spree tomorrow so I'll be able to try some specific models I think I might like (perhaps buying a used neck or body stock off ebay would save some money) and I'll also try models with specific pickups I'd like to hear. I've always been curious what the other Fender Custom Shop pickups sound like, like Fat 50's, 69's etc. I remember last time I was there I really loved the American Deluxe V neck, so I really hope they have one in stock so that I can try it again.

This will be the first time I've jotted any of this down, so it may be a little scattered. Hopefully tomorrow after I have a better idea of what I'm after I'll have a more concise version.

Body:
-Contoured neck heel for easier upper fret access would be a big bonus. That's the one place that causes me trouble to reach. I like the big contour Warmoth does, but I don't think they do the lefty tremolo rout thing.
-Lefty Tremolo rout in right handed body.
-Nitro finish (I might look for someone who could do that cheaper locally and just purchase an unfinished body if I go the custom route. Right now I'm unsure about the color anyway.)

*The site that 53magnatone posted allows for both the contoured neck heel and the lefty tremolo. In addition, one of the finishes they do is listed as "Purple Transparent". ;) I'm not sure if I want to continue playing a purple guitar or get something more subdued, but a lot of people do remember me better because there aren't very many people playing purple guitars in the world. lol

Neck:
-Dunlop 6105 Jumbo frets.
-12" radius (or possibly compound radius).
-22 Frets (more of a like than a must).
-I'm thinking a soft V would be awesome, but I'll have to play some more first to be sure.
-I like both rosewood fretboards and maple. Maybe I slightly prefer rosewood just because I'm more used to it. It also depends on what color the body of the guitar is. lol For instance, I think rosewood with surf green might look a little weird.
-The Squier's nut width is 40 mm, the Fender MIM is 42 and the Highway One is 43. I think the MIM is probably the most comfortable width to me, but I'm not going to say for sure until after I've played a bunch of guitars tomorrow.

Hardware:
-Pickguard and various plastic parts. I can get these at discount from Allparts if I order through the store.
-Lefty tremolo system with solid steel block. I'm thinking I like the import string spacing a little better because I'm more used to it, but that's something else I'm going to figure out at GC.
-Any set of decent tuners, I'm not picky about them.
-If possible solid modern style saddles instead of vintage, but I don't mind vintage either. I just like the look of the modern saddles a little better. It's just a little detail, it's not really critical to the guitar.
-Electronics (like pots, an input jack, switch) although I can probably order these through work at a discount. I can probably also get a neckplate and screws that way too.
-Bone Nut (uncut)

I like chrome, but with certain color schemes gold might look cool too.

And as far as color schemes go I really like,
-Olympic White, maple neck, gold anodized pickguard (gold hardware might look cool)
-Two tone sunburst, maple neck (classic 50s look)
-Surf Green, maple neck (another 50s look)

or

-Three tone sunburst, rosewood neck (ala SRV)
-That transparent purple sounds cool, rosewood neck
-Some kind of Bonnie Raitt blue burst, rosewood neck

I don't think this exists, but I always thought a silverburst Strat would look awesome. It's a Gibson color, I've never really seen it on a Fender. I would imagine they would charge a lot more for a custom paint job like that too. But anyway, none of that really affects the way the guitar plays so it's kind of irrelevant anyway. If someone says they have a body I could use that was bright orange I'd be fine with it. :D

So to kind of sum it up, something which looks and feels vintage but has a bunch of modern modifications to bring it up to date.

You know, my Dad is a graphic artist so I don't think it would be beyond his reach to design the headstock. I'm thinking that the Fender Lounge logo would look cool on the back of the headstock where Custom Shop guitars usually have the Custom Shop logo.

I don't want "Fender Stratocaster" on the headstock if it's not an actual Fender neck. I think that's technically illegal anyway. But I think it would definitely be cool for it to say "Lounge-O-Caster" in place of "Stratocaster". That way I could tell people the story behind it if they asked about it. :D

Oh, and as far as the address/paypal goes, shoot me a private message. :)

You definitely have some work to do tomorrow Texas. I looked through the Strats on the site and this one has the soft "V" and 12" radius
http://www.fender.com/products/search.p ... 0117702801
hopefully one of these will be available to play, it's expensive but other than the pick-ups it seems to fill the requirements. Let us know how those pick-ups sound to you 8)
