I don't blame him either, I haven't read it in it's entirety since posting. It's mostly just the monotony of me trying to decide on specs.

tzer, I understand your philosophy and you have the right idea. I'm definitely not a collector though, and this whole thread started because I played my Squier so much that the frets had worn out to the point of needing a refret. The highway one was a good solution to the immediate problem. But when I got it, it was already seven or eight years old and had been heavily played. The "Forum Caster" (as I call it) came just in time, because after I put another year or so of playing on the highway one it faced the same problem as my Squier. Plus I had a few other issues with it. It was heavy, I had trouble reaching the upper frets on it, the neck was a little on the thin side so sometimes my hand would be more fatigued after playing certain songs which had lots of barre chords and power chords in them, and the little things like that added up.

I work a steady job (which I love) at a local guitar shop, but it doesn't pay very well and I have other responsibilities besides guitar (college mainly). So buying even a used pro level guitar would be quite a bit of a stretch for me. The economy has really hit my family pretty hard too, so it's not as if I could just ask my parents for money.
Thanks to the generosity and support of all these great people here, I got the head start I needed to begin gathering parts to build a reliable guitar. Considering that I work as a guitar teacher, get regular paying gigs several times a week now, and eventually want to do this for a living, having a guitar that works for me is more of a need than a want.

I've had the finished Forum Caster for about six months or so now, and I've taken it on every gig since. I've practiced with it everyday, and it's the guitar I used to get into the Battle of the Blues Finals in L.A.
And thanks to it's stainless steel frets, I'm not having to start worrying about having to pay for another fret level right now and it looks as fresh as on the day I got it! All in all, I got a guitar with literally everything custom picked and designed by me, which is on or above the level of any decent pro level guitar, for less than what a new American Standard would cost. And for a few of the parts I still needed to buy myself (like the bridge assembly), I could stagger it out over several months so that I could afford it. If I had to buy a whole guitar all at once, it would have been a lot harder and I wouldn't have been able to get something on the same level of quality as this one. Seriously, I can't thank everyone who helped with this project enough. I'm going to have that guitar for the rest of my life, and I'm going to play it as long as I possibly can!

So anyway, I think everything worked out just fine. This thread has had a really good positive vibe so far, I'd really like it to stay that way and I'm sure it will. :) Hope this summary helped, it's certainly better than having to wade through a 30-something pages long thread!

And here's a pic of the Forum Caster in action in L.A. last week! :)

Becks, you are awesomeness incarnate.

Smart, humble, thrifty, respectful to your parents (and their needs)...and that's not even mentioning your spectacular musicianship.

I know you'll be able to accomplish everything you hope and dream about...shoot, it looks like you're halfway there!

Very nice! I recently had a one that was my only one for decades refreted. And got a used reissue fixed up the way I like with the money I save buying it used. I'd hate to muck with a new one, but I feel better about messing with one that's been around a while, but not long enough to be vintage. Good for you! I'm glad you have the proper tools for the job. I'm sure you'll have one of those Dream Guitars before you know it. Good Luck to you -- though I'm sure you don't need it.

I'm sure glad I was able to stir up some interest here on this thread. Any youtube vids you're proud of you'd like to share? I'd sure like to see your new one in action.

Yeah, I have a few videos which I had to do for a scholarship application last spring. I probably feel the best about this one. :)

FANTASTIC JOB, BECKS!!
The feeling you can put into your playing is amazing.

I like "Memphis" better, though. I could listen to that one all day long.
What's your setup in these recordings besides the forumcaster?

You have an incredible talent!

Hmmm....Did I miss any pages.... :?:

Nice response to ( tzer0 ) Becky, polite and a great way to handle a post which didn't come off as anything other than antagonistic....

I didn't mean it to be antagonistic. But I can see how you might read that into it.

No problem, dude. I think people just might have taken it that way in light of the events which unfolded between pages 2-32. By the way, welcome to the forum! :)
