Oh man! So cool! 8)

Just been doing a LO-O-O-O-O-ONG round-up on this thread. Thanks especially for all the photos and detail over the last few pages of assembling the guitar. Nice work: high fives to you and your tech.

BTW, I'm studying the pics of the spring and control cavities: that is some very thin paint you have on that body. Good job! Well worth the effort of having that body custom painted. Respect.

CONGRATS! :D

Cheers - C

I'm so proud of you TGS!! You did a wonderful job of documenting your build with great pictures and comments. I love the completed project. It is definitely a one of a kind that you should be proud of. The headstock is perfect. Now, go forth and enjoy the fruits of your labor girl!!!! 8)

I'm going to be sure to get sound clips and/or video of it up soon. I have several videos and songs I need to record for some scholarship applications I have to do coming up, and I'm sure this guitar will be center stage for that. :)

I don't know what I can do about cat pictures (I don't have cats), but I can definitely get some pictures of a couple of incredibly cute dogs! Actually, my Australian Shepard matches my guitar perfectly. I didn't plan it that way, but it's kind of funny.

On a side note, I remembered that I had to put together a picture of what the finished guitar would look like a while back. I dug through the thread and found this from almost exactly a year ago.

I just held my guitar up to the computer and it's ridiculous how much they look alike! With the only exception being that the real guitar's headstock is way cooler.

Thats a beautiful piece of work, and you will no doubt be more proud of this one, than if you just went to the store and laid down a fue bucks. And congrats on the cool job of documentation. You should be as proud of that as of your guitar. Nice Work Tex. 8)

It's called creative visualisation Tex, you knew what you wanted in a guitar, and you created it! As for the headstock, I think yours looks way cooler 8) Great job done, enjoy the guitar :D

I just thought I'd give you guys an update on the sound clip deal. I have to put together several songs for a scholarship I'm working on. I'll be recording in a professional studio for free at one of the local colleges where I have friends studying sound engineering. It's going to be much better than anything I could do on my own. Some of the deadlines for these scholarship applications are as early as April 1st, so it's going to happen very soon. I'll definitely be using my Forumcaster, so I'll share the songs with you guys as soon as they're ready. So hang tight! It's going to be worth the wait. :D

Texas, did you participate in the SXSW festival this year?

I did, and it was only slightly more worth going than last year. I had a complete technical meltdown during our first show, with my amp dying for a minute or so for soundcheck, my pedalboard going out on me mid-song because of a bad patch cord and my high e string buzzing on my Highway One because of a slipped saddle. But musically it went great. :D We drew a crowd at every venue we played and after that first day I didn't have anymore technical issues because I was able to fix everything myself. (Thank goodness I pay attention to my guitar tech.)

The thing is, with SXSW all the bands are either indie rock with monotone vocals and guitar players who just make feedback instead of playing solos or experimental hipster music. (I actually like a lot of indie rock, so don't get me wrong. It's just that every band I happened to see sounded like what I just mentioned.) One of the bands that opened for a show we played was actually pretty good, even if it was bordering on hardcore/screamo. To see people like Carolyn Wonderland or Gary Clark Jr., you had to pay for an official pass. Which is cool, except when you're on a $150 budget for the entire weekend.

My whole take on SXSW is this. All these free music fests that surround it get bands to come play for free because there are supposedly music biz big wigs and lots of music fans in town. They have promoters and sponsors, so they make money. But they don't charge anything and the bands get short sets for which they're paid nothing. It's basically free labor that makes these promoters and organizers money. It might be worth doing for a band if you already have some contacts who are in town that you could invite or if you sold merch and did some heavy promotion of your band yourself. But if not, you just end up going there and spending money like one of those pay to play venues.

I hate to be so negative about it, and I actually did have a lot of fun. It seems like I learn something new every time I go, so someday when I'm going with my band I'll really be able to make the most of it. :)

Oh! And I haven't forgotten about the audio/video clips for you guys. I've been in the studio recording with some friends of mine for the last couple of days and I have three songs to show for it. We'll be polishing them up over next week and I'll post them as soon as they're ready.
