Hi TGS how's the hunt for a name going, I'll fling a few out there
TGS StratoBeckstar :)
TGS Texocaster
TGS Coastocoaster
TGS Forumocaster
and yes the answer is I don't have anything better to do with my time :D

Still brainstorming, thanks for the suggestions. :D

Dropped the unfinished body and neck off with the luthier today. Unfortunately I won't be there to watch the finishing because he lives a fair distance away. The good news though is that it should be done in three weeks. He's going to install a bone nut for me so when I take it home all that will be left it the assembly! And since I'll be doing most of that myself expect plenty on pics.

Building up to a nice Xmas for you Becks :)

Yeah, that's a good point. Does anyone know where I could get a custom decal actually made? Is there a way of printing it from home or of somewhere that would create something from a design I provide?

TGS you can get "waterslide"decal paper at most any hobby shop. (look for a place that does model trains, or airplanes.) make sure it's the kind for your own printer (inkjet or laser.) and put your dad to work.

I did my own (though I have yet to actually finish my project, and apply it.) I no longer have a good work area, but it's no excuse for how long mine has gone unfinished, I need to get it in gear this winter i guess. Anyway, here's a mock up of what I'm using (though i think I'll make the graqphic a lot smaller in the final version, but the script only a bit smaller, so it spaces better on the headstock. I am no pro graphic artist, so your dad should have no problems.

this pic it is just laying on the headstock, not actually applied, that's why you can see the edge, and the end is curled up a bit.

I didn't even think about hobby shops! :D Awesome. I think I'd rather have my Dad work on it than someone off ebay, I think he could do a better job on it. I'll probably sketch some rough ideas up first then give it to him to tinker with.

I'm thinking that a Fender Lounge decal would be cool on the back of the headstock, like where the Custom Shop logo is on Custom Shop guitars. Since it was all of you guys who really made all of this happen, I want people to see that and ask about so that I can tell them where the guitar came from. :)

Update on the build:

It's been painted and is currently still drying. (Nitro takes forever.) The luthier who did it told me the paint took a little longer to arrive than he thought. But I'm still thinking this thing ought to be in my hands, playable, by Christmas

I still haven't figured out the decal. If I can't within the next week or so I'm very tempted to just pick up the guitar as soon as it's ready, assemble it, and worry about the decal later. My guitar tech is going to be out of town from Christmas Eve through New Year's, so I really don't want to have a ready to be assembled guitar sitting right in front of me for a whole week. I've probably been too patient with it over the last year, I want to play it already! I feel like it's the December I asked for (and received) puppies for Christmas. It felt like it took an eternity to get there! :)

Glad to hear this builds coming to a close! Hopefully the finished product is everything you hoped it would be. Can't wait to see it!

Good to hear it is nearing completion..
I would caution on holding out if something is not ready.....
I know it is along time but believe it or not it is about average timespan to have about 6 months to 1 year, depending on wether there is refinishing involved.....

BTW...I just started a new build thread in the Stratocaster section, this will take about a year to complete... :)

I can't wait to see the finished article, you've been very patient Tex. I have a feeling it's all going to be worthwhile, get the pix up asap please. And perhaps a soundbite or three?

It's been said a thousand times, but there all right on the money. Do what ever you have to do with in reason, to get your hands on your "Dream Guitar". You will play better and just as importantly your stage presence will improve 1000%. You will finally be playing something that other guitarists will drool over. How cool would that be. Play hard and make your momma proud. 8) We still want a little sample of your music. :)

Still waiting on it to dry, but I'm hoping it'll be finished within a couple of weeks. :)
