Does anyone have any experience with Jay Turser Guitars. I know they are a budget guitar, but I think you can get lucky and find some good budget guitars out there. There is an Explorer copy for sale near my home for $100. I think the retail around $225. I am totally GASSING for a guitar right now and maybe I get sucked in by a low price. I am going to try to get to the guitar shop sometime in the next couple of days to check out an Epi LP-100 (I know another budget guitar) or maybe order the Squier Telecaster Custom II. I've got a guitar fund going and can afford the Tele and almost afford the LP-100. I am still trying to decide if I should keep saving for the Epiphone LP standard. I've already got a MIA Strat and Tele, a Squier Jagmaster and an Epi acoustic, so something a little different would be nice.

I'm the king of cheap guitars and an anti gear snob. Turser isn't bad. Some play really well. Some things to look for, Does it stay in tune and is the intonation okay? Is the hardware pretty solid? Is there a lot of flex in the neck? Are the electronics okay? Try it out, see how it plays and spend more than five minutes with it. If your new to guitar bring someone with you that has more experience. I think the Epi's are a better value, but if you like it, hey it's a hundred bucks. You could always flip it and maybe make a little profit.

Do you have any experience with the LP-100, they are around $300. I had my eye on an Epi Lp standerd for $525. I only have half the money for that right now and GAS is killing me! I've read really good reviews for the Tele Custom II with P90s. I don't have a guitar with P90s so that would be cool, but I already have a tele. I know that its different, but its the same you know? i gonna see if the goy with the Jay Turser is available tonight. The seller says "One Of The Pots Has A Tiny Scratch Other Than That Its Fine Stays In Tune Fine".

I don't really care for the lower end Epi's. The LP Standard would be better. I really like the LP Tribute too. It has Gibby pups and other upgraded hardware.

I bought a JT for my son and regret it. Was a good price but wish I would have bought a Squire product at least. The good part is he is happy with it for now. Also this a fender site lets be loyal to the brand.

Thanks 63. You are a big help on these forums. You helped me with amp issues before.

I am quite loyal to Fender. I have many Fender products. We all like different guitars here and everyone is happy to share and help.
By the way, welcome to the forum.

I believe we are musicians first. Not everything Fender manufacturers is the finest in the word.
I have and have been playing Fender gear for over 40 years, but I have also played or owned many well know and many not so well known brands. Currently I'm a big fan of Egnater and recommend them. I had lots of problems with my HRDlx AND my GDec 15 and now somethings up with my Gdec 30, so I don't recommend that segment of Fender. I do always recommend the 65 and Tweed Reissues before any other Fender amp.

scotthess, I am well aware that this is a Fender site, I am also well aware that Fender is discussed on other major manufacturers sites with no problem. They are all gracious with allowing that. There is an upside to allowing that too. Could be where the Blacktop series came from. Strats with dual Buckers, go figure. There's nothing wrong with Squier either, but not every Fender fan likes Squier just as not every Gibson player likes Epiphone.

Only discussing Fender here would get old pretty quick. Playing music is our common bond. What's next we can't discuss effect pedals because Fender makes a few? I still own one and use it too. A 70's fender Fuzz Wah.

yodacaster glad I could help.

I agree, save and wait for a value.

By value I mean a guitar that will hold its value or has great parts to salvage if you deside to make a parts guitar with it in the future. My expriences with econo-guitars is the parts are not all that great to make a decent parts-caster, and the value of them will depreciate over time. A upper-end Epi is a good value and will hold its value over time. If your up for the challange, there are some raw wood kits out on the market that include PRS, flying V, LPs, and other exotic shaped guitars for building. These are much more difficult to build than a parts-strat because of the need to set the neck, install binding, and apply finish. It also requires a lot more tools to build.

SquIERs are honestly the best budget guitars on the market, they are simply phenomenal instruments fr their price.

Also, if you don't mind buying used you can get great MIMs and Epiphones for around the $200 mark on ebay and craigslist.

just dont get the california series or affinity...they are so entry level that you will feel the wood wasnt sanded well and very very sharp fret ends...go with classic vibe or upscale models..

Standards, Classic Vibes, Artist and Deluxes are all guitars that are way better than their price indicates, I won't be suprised to see their prices shoot up in the future.

Bullet and Affinity series are best reserved for absolute beginners who may not stick with the instrument.

The shop near me sometimes has Jay Turser guitars in. I have to agree with Scotthess, avoid it.
Not a nice neck shape at all, just felt very not worthy of its £90 price tag. As a beginner guitar, yeah their ok for a year or two at the most.

If your after a Explorer save for one of these,
http://www.reidys.com/index.pl?submit=View_PLU&PLU=7370&utm_source=GoogleBase&utm_medium=Feed&utm_campaign=PriceComparison

A perfectly servicable instrument that will keep you satisfied for years.
leave the Epiphone low end alone, your as well off to go with the JT.
