Hi guys,
maybe you could help me with this: would you rather go with a mixer with USB interface OR a mixer and a separate PD audio interface? Same goes for mixers with onboard effects vs mixer with external effects unit.

I've been looking at small up to 10 channels mixers, will be used to play small venues (connecting 1-2 acoustic guitars and 1-2 mics) and record some demos.
Nothing professional really, therefore I have a limited budget and was hoping on some more expert opinions to spend wisely :)

thanks!

It sounds like your application is for 'live sound' (with occasional recording) and if so, you want the best mic pre's you can get...

From what you've described, I'd suggest the Mackie 1202/VLZ3 which is a great value for the money :

Good luck!

Hey, thanks for your answer, " 'live sound' (with occasional recording) " describes it the best!
I did read some very good reviews about Mackies, along with Yamahas.
So you think it's best to get a separate interface to record on my PC then?
cheers

I was thinking in Mackie too while I was reading your question.

If you want the same quality plus USB connection, here you have another option:

Hope it helps you.

Just don't be tempted by price. I'd steer clear of Behringer. Mackie makes some nice stuff.

The Mackie 1202/VLZ3 Mike suggested looks pretty good and
has more i/o options and features than the Yahama MG82cx I am using.

I've been using that MG82cx for mixing and a E-MU 404 as a confuser interface.

:P This will start new  GAS  , next you will be looking for decent studio monitors, and headphones!

Agree with 63supro, I've had bad luck with Behringer products.

"confuser' interface. :D

I'm using an EMU 1212M PCI sound card and it works out well for what I record.
