The premise of the issue is the most expensive/valuable guitars, which is whatever. But it's full of all kinds of great stuff, none of it really new or earth-shattering, but great pics of tons of legendary guitars, Eddie Van Halen breaking down how he tinnkered with, built and $@!&*% up his early guitars, an article on Kurt designing the Jag-Stang, Randy Rhodes' Concords, Duane Allman's goldtop, Ace Frehley on his devotion to Les Pauls, Billy Gibbons collecting of everything, Dimebag's Deans.

Just all in all, really cool, def. worth the cover price. Nothing you can't find all over the interwebz, but still great to sit down and read.

Eh, Uncle Dick is a pretty well known Guitar. And the first Hamer ever I think is pretty notable. And Cheap Trick are a little bigger than Rory Gallagher to be fair.

the first Hamer guitars just don't say legend. the uncle dick is cool but thats about it. cheap trick were bigger than Rory because they were american and last i checked this is america. what i don't see is legendary guitarists talk about neilson's guitars or him for that matter. i have all of Rory's songs and never wanted to own any cheap trick. probably my third time buying Rory's. i'm too old to fight.or maybe i'm biased...oh well.

wow just didnt see that card being played.

as far as guitarists talking about rick goes, eddie vh and alan holdsworth have both credited rick in the past several times.
its not one of those "nobody is talking about his so he must suck" kind of thing.

And last I checked, not being America never hurt Keef or George Harrison or Pete Townsend or Eric Clapton, etc.

Last time I checked I wasn't in America. Unless you guys have tried to invade us again, didn't work out too well for you the last couple of times.

If this was www.fender.us/community then we would be in US, sort of, but www.fender.com is world wide, that's what www means. Of couse Al Gore did invent the web, so maybe the entire web is in America.

Back to the subject at hand, I grimaced at the story of EVH "destroying his Destroyer" by taking out too much wood near the bridge, messing up the tone, sustain, etc. Eddie's supposition about making a Fender tremolo/vibrato/whatever stay in tune was interesting, too. "It's not just one thing, but a multitude of things that makes it work..."

The story about Skydog's Les Pauls was cool, too (didn't know about the switched out pickups between his goldtop and the cherry sunburst).

I had read all of the Billy Gibbons stuff before, but I still love to see/read/hear about all things ZZ Top, so I enjoyed that too.

PS--Rick Nielson is a legend in guitar circles, if nothing else but for his wacky instruments (like the 5-neck backbreaker, Uncle Dick, etc.); He is also quite a collector of vintage Gibsons and Hamers (as mentioned in the mag).
Rory's more of a "romantic legend" story; he is (perhaps) a bit more respectable because he never "went pop" and he died. Rory's Strat should have been in the mag, but Keef's "Micawber" wasn't shown either; nor were George Harrison's rosewood Tele or "Rocky" Stratocaster; the Peter Green/Gary Moore Les Paul wasn't in there; Leadbelly's 12-string Stella, Robert Johnson's Gibson, Muddy Water's Telecaster, Buddy Guy's Strat, SRV's "#1" Strat, Albert Collins' Telecaster, Johnny Winters' Firebird, Joe Pass' Epiphone Emperor, John Lee Hooker's Sheratons, Hank Marvin's fiesta red Stratocaster (purported to be the first Strat in Great Britian), BB King's "Lucille", Screamin' Armadillo's "Big Tex" Tele Special...

So it seems that nationality wasn't a deciding factor in who was featured...why can't we all just get along?
