I had the opportunity to sit in on three songs at the local pub last night. First time I have had the opportunity to play blues in a live setting. I was nervous, I played poorly, but I was in guitar heaven!!!!

We played "How Blue Can You Get", "Sweet Home Chicago", and "Mustang Sally"....it was a thing of beauty. :D

Look out Eric Clapton.....

That's cool Beaubs, the first time sitting in is always a bit nervewracking the next time won't seem near as hard and don't forget that we guitarists are our own toughest critics so don't think that you didn't do good.

That's awesome! I'm really happy for you, now that you got the first time out of the way you can move on and make a habit of it, good luck in the future.

i hear ya man, good work! the toughest part about it, or so I am told, is getting that first time out of the way. also, most people save for the other guitarsts never know when you mess up. they just came to be entertained and at that moment in time you are a rockstar to them, they envy you and wish they could be doing what you are doing! my first live blues jam is tomorrow night and I am nervous but ready and practiced. Going to do a slow blues in C instrumental to open, then an Elmore James shuffle in A and a T Bone Walker slow blues in G to finish. I'll probably mess up a ton, but I just want to have fun. I know all the guys there and they all know i have really only been playing a little more than a year so no real stress on me.

Way to go!

In my experience, both jamming and hosting blues jams, the experience can vary depending on who you get to get up with.

Sometimes it can be difficult for the jam host to match the right players to
others with equal talent, or in some cases, lack of.

Keep at it and network with the other players that you hit it off with
and it can only get better!

Very Cool. I like sitting in and do it all the time. The worst was with a Jazz guy who played with myself and a friend who plays the harp. It started going pretty well till the Jazz guy started playing cords for the sake of playing cords and lost us both LOL. The best times are when I see some friends who I've known for years and sit in with them. Playing with different people is always a learning experience for everyone involved. Blues Jams are my favorite. When you sit in, don't worry about a thing. Most of the patrons don't know the difference and the guys you're playing with usually can cover anything and you look good anyway. Fun is what it's all about. The nervousness will eventually go away.

i've played my share of gigs and i still get nervous. some large but mostly smallish bars. rythym playing don't bother me a bit. it's the darn solos. playing out will only make you better.
don't forget to work on your moves. my favorite is the steve harris "machine gun" move where he props his foot on the moniter and "shoots" at the crowd with his bass.
i'm sure you played your butt off. don't be too critcal of your playing. it's supposed to be fun.

Thanks for the feedback guys.....the bottom line for me is that it was simply a blast to be up on stage hammering out some blues, it was a dream come true.

Also, I have been invited to "come back and sit in any time I want" so my playing must not have been too bad. I am looking forward to the next time........ 8)
