How do the dropped tunings affect the "floating" Strat?

Does it require a whole "new" setup?

I have a dedicated Strat tuned to E flat. I keep my alternate extravaganza for my accoustic.

I love alternate tunings esspecialy when an acoustic is around for some reson a song just sounds so nice and fat with all those droning strings. I used to have a spiral notebook with the tunings and what songs went with them.Ita been a long time but let me see off the top of my head Open G -Show me the Way-Frampton/Dancing Days-Zep/Pink Houses-John Cougar and to many Stones tunes to list/Open E - She Talks to Angels - Black Crowes/DADGAD-KASHMIR-Zep/I used to leave an acoustic tuned to a Gmaj7th chord which was for the rain song which is really not hard to play but just sounds so beautiful and complicated also the Goo Dolls had a couple of great songs to play in strange open tunings that I cant remember off the top of my head and of course Ed but I really dont consider that an open tuning but they are all fun and there a ton of them and before tab came along it was a mystery trying to figure a lot of these songs in standard.

It just requires the trem to be rebalanced maybe a tweek on the intonation and action to compensate for the balance going skewwiff.

I use open G on my tele ala keef.
I have a strat thats open G with the high E tuned to its E concert pitch tone.

Another tuned to open E capo'd at the 5th fret (esp ltd).
The lemon drop gets tuned to open D for slide, gonna be concert pitch once i get the frets sorted...

At one point drop C, but our Fender basses aren't so good below D...so that's when the BTB came in...Now only the Power Jazz Bass Special gets the drop D, the others are tuned to E.

There wer 2 that I regularly used in the past

DADGAE- Blues

CGCFGD- Hard-Core

It's a killer tuning to bar all the way across, or keep the 3-high strings open. Tricky to do leads on, but I eventually adjusted.

Drop D right now is helping me feel like I'm actually playing something that sounds good. My wife doesn't get as mad when I play in drop D either.

heres a good site for tunings and you can customize your own tunings

http://www.tunemybass.com/

don't worry about the site name, its guitars and basses

While I don't use them very often, this is the reason I got a Gibson LP Robot. Pull and twist the knob, strum the strings and you're in one of 8 or so different tunings.
I used to keep a Strat tuned to DADGAD.

I like to use open E, open G, drop D and sometimes Eb. I normally use standard tuning but sometimes it feels good to do something different.

Not really an alternate tuning, I just drop everything down a step: DGCFAD.
