Aside from slide playing, do you use any alternate tunings?

I sometimes tune 1/2 step down. Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Bb, and Eb.

i used to do a lot of open tunings and stuff, but it was too much of a hassle.
if you're interested in alternate tunings, you should check out sonic youth. they do some really bizarre tunings.

no problem.... i find it useful if you don't feel like getting a tuner out to change tunings if you're looking at a tab in an alternate tuning or something

There's a band called My Bloody Valentine that uses several tunings. I've seen them and Sonic Youth live. It's pretty crazy, because after each song, they were handing guitars off to roadies who were giving them guitars at the same time.

I have been playing some drop C tuning the past few weeks jamming on some Nickleback. My wife digs 'em, what can I say.

The reason (as if you need one) to have many guitars

Several in standard tuning
a couple in double drop D
a couple in open G
a couple in DADGAD
one for odd tunings,, CSN, Joni Mitchell... etc etc..

I tend to play out of tune most of the time. But given I often play Neil Young songs that ain't too bad a thing. ;o)
