Personally, I wouldn't recommend buying a $1600 guitar with tuning options your not ready for. Take some time, learn how to play in the basic tuning. Make sure you're going to stay a guitar player. Then you can make an investment like that. But thats just me.

I just bought it, it was my first strat. So far, I love it. Sounds amazing with it's 3 singe-coil pick ups, and with the added Roland Pickup, you won't have to worry about tuning for drop tuning and what not, which in my eyes is good if you're pretty new. On the other hand, if you feel that changing batteries for active electronics makes it a drag, or less of a classic, then I'd skip over it.

I'm probably going to get one within a year. I currently keep a 335 tuned to DADGAD and my LP to Open G. I'd like an electric 12 string too. So the VG would take care of all of that. Then I could put my 335 and LP back to standard tuning. I really dig the idea of being able to play something bright and 12 string Beatley and with the turn of a knob and a stomp on the OD leap into Kashmir. All with one axe. Very cool.
