I thought that your band was taping a session at a radio show. That's fun too and they always have a great mix to give you afterwards. (at least better than recording it at a lower bitrate!).

Anywho, good luck and hope that you get some high visibility from it!

Well, if I'm right then the show should go on the air four and a half hours from now at 9:00 p.m. Central. I've been wrong before though.

So I'm listening to the Texas Buzz right now and there's no sign of us. :( I'm wondering if we just totally got taken advantage of. We didn't get paid for the show, they didn't give us a recording and now they're not playing our music on the radio. I'm kind of upset, I mean telling us "play this show and we'll get you some exposure" and not doing it is just flat out lying.

I'm thinking maybe the DJ wants to get back at us for something we did at the show too. Before he introduced us he told an extremely offensive joke and Cari (our singer) called him out for it onstage and let him know we weren't very happy about it. That would be very petty if that's what's happening.

it is 11pm and the buzz is buzzing but there aren't any interviews on the schedule. I was asleep at 9pm, dinner knocked me right out so I didn't wake up until 10pm. Texas, are you and your band going to play SXSW in Austin?

Playing SXSW would be really cool, but I guess it just depends on what contacts we have by then. If we don't know anyone who can get us in chances are we won't play it. But if we find someone who can book us that would be great. Last summer we played a show in Austin the day before the SXSW festival and everyone was driving into town and checking into hotels so the part of 6th street where we were playing was fairly deserted.

Texas, this link looks like a general info link, your band manager might be able to get your band on the bill. I'm hoping you get booked and then you can let us know how it happens. :D

With bookings, one thing works. Persistent nagging if all else fails. In te early days of bands, it can be your best friend and your worst enemy. Make sure your ready for the venue, if your not up to scratch, but have nagged your way onto a bill. You'll never get back again once that shot has gone.

I've done it plenty, daily phonecalls to promoters/venue managers. Pushed demo's and details at them. Told em, "any booked bands drop out at short notice, call us. We'll open the evening and everyone else can move up one position. Unless were booked for that night (and this is the important bit to get across) cos we don't let people down".
In other words, be a pain to the promoter and their best friend at the same time.

Get a good demo together, that is of prime importance.

http://mediawebsource.com/demo.htm

I can't really recommend home recording for demo purposes. Mainly because I believe your demo is to present the band in the best possible light. So paying for expert help is the best course of action to take. That said aside from getting song ideas down, my home recording experience is limited. There's no doubt some that can produce top notch home recordings.
Keep it concise and with clear band/contact details on the sleeve.
You've got some studio tracks recorded and now you have the option of selecting the 3 best live tracks from this radio recording. You can select the 3 best sounding tracks from that too. Use the studio tracks to get a foot in the door, then the radio recorded tracks if a bit more leverage is needed.
Theres loads on the internet about getting a good demo together. It's the best thing you will ever do for yourselves.
I still use selected songs recorded with previous bands as demo's when applying for positions (one punk, one blues rock, one jazz blues. As they best show my abilies from all I have recorded). So it's not ever money down the drain. You only drop tracks when you can replace them with better.

Sorry to hijack, but I'm late to this thread and have only just seen this, from page one:

I did a couple of shows. One was a must for any band about to get serious with a DJ who did sessions for the best (and I mean the best). The late :( Mr John Peel, played my old band 3 times and interviewed the singer. Lovely fellow he was...

HOLY CRAP! Am I getting it right, are you saying you played on the John Peel Show, Nick? Three times?

For those as don't know (and why should you?) for several decades that was the most important radio show ever on this side of the Atlantic. John Peel broke everyone who ever was anyone in the world of rock, punk, indie, world music (till Andy Kershaw came along) and many other genres. Everyone from The Who to Pink Floyd to Led Zeppelin to Jimi Hendrix to REM to The Clash to... well, all of 'em. Short of having your Albert Hall debut broadcast live on TV it is about as close to Rock Royalty as you get where we live.

You are a very dark horse indeed, Mr Nicholas Ninja! We are not worthy, etc etc... 8)

Cheers - C

+ 1, just read this exquisite "oh, by the way" remark of The Ninja with awe. Right on, Mister!

Well, there's one thing I'll never achieve...

RIP Mr. Peel, you were a true visionary and lover of music.

I stopped listening to the radio altogether, after John Peel's sudden passing. A music legend imho.

Sorry to go off topic OP

You're still talking about bands and the radio, so it's still technically on topic. Plus it's interesting.
