is a ............ just watch

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyOCp5Ax ... re=channel

i do have the rebel. i know for sure that the rebel can sound a ton better than hes making it sound. my next combo will be the Haze 40.
he has all the egnators knobs at 12 O'clock on the EQ most of the video.
tweak that damn amp geez. hes killing the image of the rebel20 and most likely the Haze.
what a joke of a shoot-out.

It confirms what I have always felt.

EMG's suck.

I would say that I like the Marshall more then the rebel, but it wasn't really worked like it should have been, he didn't dial the wattage, nor did he try the EL-84 tubes.

He should have turned the 6V6 on for the clean test, then do the mix and the EL84's alone.

But I think the Marshall is a better overall because on the effects and that it is a two channel it make it less of a one trick pony.

Dunno if you could kill it anymore than Egnater are doing. I jest.

Did you look at the video for long? He did move dials at around the 6 minute mark. And although that fella could make Gabriel's harp sound bad. It did remind me why I don't own a Egnater. You always sacrifice sound when you gain versatility.
I didn't think the Haze sounded that good either though. Typical modern highgain/no punch rubbish. Styled on the JVM sound. Not me at all. Better to just turn the clean channel right up and get a somewhat real marshall sound.

Oh misanthrope I am.

yeah i saw that. (he works the knobs) i almost couldnt take him much longer then i saw it. he reminds me of the employee that hides and waits til everybody leaves the store then sneaks back out to do his youtube thing, then goes home to moms basement to post it up.
niki i think if you had a few days with an egnator you would like it.
you just cant get to the sweetness in 20 with this amp seriously.
at this point the egnator wont replace my blues jr for that blues tone,
but its doing a damn good job at everything else. i need to spend more time with it
to try and catch its blues voice so many say it has. ive just been way to dang busy rockin the sweet spot to worry with it lol.

Thats a lot of the reason I won't buy one. Any amp I can't plug into and get a comfortable sound from almost instantly aint no use to me. Not that its a bad amp at all. it just didn't push my buttons. Most things don't though.
I like older Marshall's because the controls don't do anything. My amp does any style I want. I dictate to the amp what's happening, not the other way round. What I really want out of a amp is clarity. Just a good, clear, strong sound. Without a fat lot going on in the eq. What you plug in is what comes out, pretty much.
I know I'm a tough customer when it comes to amp sounds. I for years thought the JCM800 had it for me. That it was going to be my amp forever. Plugged into it today (first time since August) and thought, "bloody hell whats this?". Not in a good way, think I'll be jumping the pots on that tommorow. Played a AC30 in the week, and I've hated them since forever. But actually enjoyed it as a clean amp.

We change, tastes change, so who knows. Never say never eh?

Just don't get me onto Peavey JSX's (though I really like Peavey amps) or Bogner's. I don't think I'll ever cange my mind about them.

"Let me start with one of these bad boys right here" LOL That guy is the Asstone King. He can make any guitar or amp sound like arse. He is one of the biggest jokes on youtube, don't worry about. There's nothing wrong with the Rebel 20. I've lost count of how many amps I've owned the past 40 years and that assclown is one of a handful of people that can coax a bad sound out of the Rebel or any amp for that matter. The Rebel 20 can hold its own with any of the amps I've ever owned. It's an amp that's capable of some pretty complex tones when you start messing with it.

Here's a clue, if you want clean out of the Rebel 20, turn the watts dial to 20 watts, turn the volume all the way up and use the gain knob control the volume. Use the tube mix to taste. If you want to boost the headroom, put the tube mix dial at 12:00 for a volume boost. As far as sacrificing sound when you gain versatility, it depends on who's twisting the dials. As far as Marshall goes, I've never liked them. Doesn't make them a bad amp, they're just not good for what I do and lack the versatility I require. I do like the Marshall Class 5, but I can get a similar tone from my Egnater. I don't need a 50 or 100 watt amp. I own 10 guitars, no two are the same model or manufacturer so I require a wide range of versatility. If I owned six Strats I'd only need one amp. But I don't.

well said supro.

niki you would have liked my first amp i ever owned. it was a Sunn amp from back in 82.
man that was the cleanest SS amp ive ever heard. yeah SS can get clean indeed, but this thing was crystal clear and very loud. everybody loved that amp. took pedal better than any amp ive ever heard. no it wasnt tube but man that thing could crank whatever you put into it.

Indeed......a total sonic slug!

I think rival amp and guitar companies hire this cupcake to demo one another's gear. He's like a one-man Three Stooges shtick.

Yeah me too...They got some nice amps over there.

Keeping on topic though, I thought the playing was horrible, as was the tone from the Marshall. The Egnater has the kind of tone I could definitely work with. Marshall's sound has been copied so many times onto countless cheap multi-effects boxes and now everytime I hear one, that's what I think...Cheap plastic toy distortion...lol.

Asstone King is great fun. The funniest thing is he thinks he's doing amp and guitar companies, and musicians a huge favor with his reviews. I would get a cease and desist order on him to make him stop hurting sales. LOL He can manage to make anything sound bad. I could picture him tossing a ton of gain on a vintage D'Angelico Jazz box and making it sound like arse. Don't forget "to start out with one of these bad boys right here".
