That makes two of us!

Well, there's gimmicks and then there's gimmicks. This one is a bit more 'out there' and so, it should be a bit of a money maker for them until they have to start honoring their warranties.

I wonder with these if one has to use a glass cutter in case a fingerboard ever gets sprout. Notwithstanding, I guess this brings new meanings to 'crystal clear tone' and 'glassy highs' from your guitar.

Good luck to those who take the plunge.

They have my money and I'm not concerned about warranties. It's nice to be able to purchase whatever you want whenever you want to. I do. All the time.

Not any more you haven't. A guy just sold it to me the other day for a ton of cash.

...Hey. Wait a minute...!

Seriously though. Folklore claims aside, I'm fascinated to know how you make frets out of crystal. I'm imagining the shaping work that would go into that - wow! Not only shaping the crown but exactly matching the radius curve of the fingerboard. Surely at any rate they don't have tangs? How could you possibly machine that? So are they just glued in place?

I need plenty more info. Which is why I'd love to see a set! Wouldn't it be nice if there was someone else who'd like to pay for some and take good photos, so's we can have our questions answered from the comfort of our arm chairs?

Go to, DHD! :D

Oh, and how much did you pay, please?

Cheers - C

I just don't see how it's a viable prospect to carve the radius and tang out of crystal.
I strongly suspect it to be some form of silicon gel left to set on the fingerboard. Or actuall crystal glued onto the neck.
Either way, better make sure they dont get a knock and shatter. Cos let's face it hard and brittle go together hand in hand. Or when you get bored of the mother of toilet seat look, and decide you want to go back to non-Liberace real frets. You're going to be buying a fingerboard too.
Bloody stupid ugly gimmick. Nothing more.

I think it's a nice aesthetic and probably feel different. As for lasting a long time, yeah I'll give it that, considering they are harder then metal so metal can't wear them in my lifetime, but forever is a long claim.

I agree with nikininja on one thing, your guitar falls over and smacks one of those frets it's toast! where as metal frets will just get a ding in them.

i would use this for a custom build if i was going all the way, but my good old friends hanging on the wall upstairs will keep there metal frets forever :)

I called (303) 621-6352 and got a price.

You can too.

Or...... you can post about how something isn't good based on a link you saw and have no practical hands on experience with.

So what was the price of the frets oh wise one?
Did you find out about the fitting process?

Why the hell would I want to call America about a product I know to be nonsense? It's going to change the sound of your guitar about as much as changing nut material does. Which aint a fat lot at all.

Just get past the hype and think of the physics of it.

One born every minute.

Id hate to get a sliver of glass in the finger during a set. But they do look neat.

A good question, that I was already thinking about.

Quote from some google link.
Quote:
For the human voice to shatter crystal glass, several factors have to come into play. First, the crystal glass needs to be the optimal shape---usually a bell-shaped wine glass on a long, slender stem. A tall, slender stem prevents damping, or any interference with the resonant force. Second, the leaded crystal glass needs to be as thin and pure as possible. Ideally, the empty glass should also contain microscopic defects, undetectable to the naked eye. Defects speed along the process of "exciting" the resonance of the vibrating crystal to the point of shattering it. Singers often have to make multiple attempts with several different glasses before finding the right glass. So, luck is also involved in the process. Once the right crystal glass has been selected, the easiest way to find the correct note or particular harmonic frequency of the crystal glass is to flick the crystal with your fingertip. If the singer can duplicate that particular note by holding the glass close to her mouth to attain the highest possible amplitude, then the matching resonance frequency will "excite" the vibrations in the glass, bombarding the molecules within it and displacing air molecules until the glass reaches its breaking point. The glass is stretched beyond its elastic limit. In other words, the glass has been stressed beyond its capacity to vibrate and shatters instead.

I always thought that top C would shatter most crystal pretty much negating the 20th fret  . However it seems I'm wrong or right for the wrong reasons. You have to match the resonant frequency of the particular crystal. It varies slightly between different examples of crystal.
Pray you aint going on after someone who uses a lot of feedback.
