Didn't you guys pay attention?
*Dunno what I'm gonna do with you lot.*

It's computer programable. So if you only want 3 sounds out of the thing, you put them right next to each other. Same as you would a multi effects unit.

Yeah, that was the part that intrigued me about this when I first saw the video. My recurring thought though as I was watching that video, is that I'd be confusing myself about what settings are programmed where. Now if there was an L.E.D on the back that displayed what setting I was on like a typical multi-effects would have. I would probably be a little more likey to embrace the idea as a whole.

See I think Ernie Ball have 2nd guessed how it's users want things, accurately. Most won't want a LED display on their guitar. Most, after a year or so of trying things out will settle on a maximum of seven sounds, more likely three. And will fully appreciate the lack of LED display on their guitar. Cos lets face it, aesthetically it's wonderful.
I've a strat with 5 sounds on it, but only use three, mostly two.

The one thing about user interfaces, in whatever walk of life. They take a little getting used to, but you can't accurately judge em till you've had a go on em.

Agreed...Overall it's a nice looking guitar, and as is typically the case with Music Man, I bet it plays and sounds great too. I find myself using each pickup by itself and never really any in between setting, so a simple setup works well for how I play, but with this guitar, I could see it being a little more succesful than say the Firebird-X. And I was thinking a small L.E.D somewhere on the back of the guitar just to keep the player on track. I definitely wouldn't want one on the front anywhere.

I think we've all seen these technological "magic bullets" before and have inevitably been disappointed when the hype did note equate to the hope......Gibson's Robo-Pauls, Line 6's Variax, even Fender's own VG Strat are prima facie examples. Ultimately the marketplace will judge this latest effort, as it always does. Meanwhile, I'll just keep my Strats and Les Pauls for the time being.

I agree. I doubt the Strats and Les Pauls are going the way of the 8-track tape player. But the difference this guitar has is its ability to switch to many more pickup wiring combinations. Sort of like replacing your 5-way switch with a 125-way switch.

Where Ernie Ball guitars are concerned I don't think there is much danger of a guitar feeling or playing bad.

i'm going to have to agree with the majority of the others... too much tech, then after it's all said and done, i'd find the setting that sounds most like my strat, one that sounds most like my tele, and be done with all the other capabilities.
i had a digitec multi-function pedal... much the same capabilities as the game changer offers, had fun with it for a few days, but brought it back and traded it in for a cry baby.
i had a vox vt60 modeling amp... much the same capabilities as the game changer offers, never used any of the pre-programmed stuff,.. never had the time to program my own, just found the setting that sounded big and full and left it there... later traded it for a hot rod.

funny thing about the artists and tones that these modeling engineers try to emulate, page has his "sound", clapton has his "sound", brian may has his "sound", but all the emulatees had only one sound each that they managed to coax out of their equipment. how many million options?... it's taken me long enough to figure out where my knobs need to be to get the sound i like with either 3 or 5 switch settings.

i'll take plain and simple any day. 8)

I'd still like to try one out. Between the switch and tone pull selector, you could at least start by creating a single coil sound bank, and beefy Humbucker bank with 5-selections each, then go further from there.

The default doesn't seem so hard from the factory:
http://gamechanger.music-man.com/specs

Bank -A: is everything in series
Bank -B; is everything in parallel

I personally don't think it's too hard to figure out. I'm sure it would take some getting used to, but I do think it would be a cool studio guitar to have. Live using just the 5-way and tone pull after getting used to it.. You wouldn't even really need to use the Z switch.

Chambered Basswood, DiMarzio pickups? Nice!!

I agree with you there for sure. It would be easier than having to drag a bunch of guitars to the studio.

   What you'd have to do is wire the Sustainer in as a middle pickup (though I know it causes problems there). And use the Variax guts as a stompbox from a midi out pickup.

Then just to be a smartypants. Demolish a FirebeardX onstage and pronounce the new revolution in guitar technology.
