i'm back. t'was fun, despite the rainy humid weather. at one point we had all of my mums side of the family down there, it was good to catch up.

now, on the first day my uncle and my cousin came down for a day, and me, my brother, my cousin, and my uncle were the test dummys for going down the river on tubes. cause of the recent floods there was alot of debris in the river. so we went down to the river, got in and went. and about litterally 3 minuts later there was a dam, so my uncle tried to get us all over that safely. my cousin slipped and nearly hit his head on a metal bar that was sticking out of the dam. once we were all over it we set off again and about 1 minute later, there was a really dangerous looking rapid. my uncle said get to the side and grab a rock. i was the only one that did that. the others got stuck on a log underwater, and were nearly drowning. i didn't know wheather to go and help them, cause there were little 5 meter high cliffs on both sides of the river. i stayed there cause my uncle was yelling at the top of his lungs stay there to me. i honestly thought they were all going to drown, right in front of me and there was nothing i could do. but eventually they slid across the log carfully, and got up on rocks on the other side that i was on. they ditched there tubes, and tryed to find a way to get to my side. they decided on climbing up the mini-cliff. they eventually did that. by now i was sitting there for about 45 minuts, and when they got up the top i couldn't see them. so i decided to get up my side. it was very hard, lots of prickles and loose rocks. when i was up there i could see a road on the other side, with my uncle trying to spot me from it. i got his attention, and he told me to run to the main waterhole up ahead. so i (suprisingly) ran, got there, saw my mum with the most worried look on here face (we were supposed to be at the waterhole about an hour before i got there). she was worried sick and she told me that she was talking to the life guard there and he said that a kid drowned not that far from here cause he got sucked under a log. anyway we gradually found my brother, my cousin and my uncle, and went back to the hotel. my uncle was clearly shaking, and he said he felt very guilty cause he had the responsibility on all of us.
just a lesson, never underestimate the power of rivers, and how strong the rapids can be.

yeah apart from that it was a good holiday, nice to catch up with the relatives

Sounds like an eventful vacation to say the least. Glad you were able to make it out of that safely and still able to enjoy your holiday. And yes, water is a very powerful unforgiving thing, I always treat it with respect.

Ahh yes...it's summer around your neck of the woods right about now. I could certainly use some of that sunshine!

Men that must have been a real adrenaline burst and not the good kind.

I had a life confirming experience in december. I was hunting with my dad and my friend and I found my self alone in the Icelandic highlands. I knew that they had gone after a bird into a canyon and walk over there and yes there they are, my friend at the bottom and my dad moving down. So I decide to move down too. Now there was about 20-30 meters down and very steep. I get about 1/3 of the way easily but after that there is just frozen solid ice down until about 2-3 meters at the bottom and I find myself kind of stuck. So I decide to be "sensible" and sit down and use the heel of my boots to kick in some steps in the snow. It is going alright until I am almost halfway down when I over stretch in an attemp to put my foot on a bit of a grass sticking up the snow and slip down about 10 meters down at full speed where I managed to put my foot on a rock at the snowedge escaping with minor injury in the hip joining the foot I managed to stop myself with, put that fixed self in the hot tub at the cabin we stayed in.

I am glad that you and your relatives managed to get out of the situation pretty much unharmed.

as a semi pro kayak shark fisherman i can tell you that you guys are very lucky somebody didnt die. getting caught under a log jam is no joke.
sometimes my contracts take me to rivers to fish and the slightest thing can go wrong and end up in a bad way.
just a question for you, and im betting zero, how many of you tubers had your PFD on?

ive had 7 friends die in the last 5 yrs doing what i do. none of them were wearing their PFD's. well 1 was. it was up in canada. he was 15 yrs off the lake when a snow storm blew in. it was so bad he couldnt find the shore. they found him the next day froze to death in his kayak. another guy was on a river that was in this section 10 feet wide. he fell out, hit his head and drown. what we do is very dangerous in of itself, last thing we need is to drown because we didnt wear our PFD. crazy accidents on the water is no respector of swimmers. one of my friends that did again he wasnt wearing a PFD, was a freestyle diver. all of the situations where my friends died except the first could have been changed if they were wearing their PFD's. boats or floats, always wear your PFD.
now last fall i had a friend get the back end of his kayak darn near bitten off by a tiger shark. he dang near sank before he made it back to shore from 2 miles out lol.
the shark followed him in up until the last 20 yrds from shore. CLOSE lol.
