AAHHH...!! The sweet smell of burnin.. circuits

I think only if Ronald has been put out to pasture, as for the replacement spokesperson there could be any kabuki made up former band member.
Just pick the band, dismembered former members not allowed, might scare the kiddies away

No offense but the only "consumer feedback" or research Apple has ever done is what one man wants and that is Steve Jobs the CEO.

By the way, Road Worn, Relic'ing, etc... is the dumbest F***ing thing in the world of musical instruments, what a load of BS.

I like the way you think!

And you've been with Apple for how Long :?:  :?:
Seriously, if you believe that Steve Jobs is responsible for everything than you are fantasizing.
A successful corporation like Apple has it's leader(s) of course but, One man cannot envision the entire universe. Great ideas, that he has, but he also knows when to let his research people and developers grab the reins and develop products according to feedback.
Like any successful enterprise, there are plenty of ideas that fail, but where Apple is different is that they are able to reassess quickly and unlike some companies not try to shove a poorly received product idea out into the market only because they spent so much on research that it could not fail.
Let's see,...Big Blue?...they are a shadow of their former selves... Chrysler.....limping about with archaic products... There are countless companies throughout the decades that refused or could not adapt to change and therefore were either absorbed (LBO's or in today's term Private Equity Firms..KKR for one) or just perished.
Yes I know, people lose their employment, than their house etc...etc... I know the syndrome very well as being in Residential Construction I also needed to adapt to survive.
Fender was once owned by CBS if you recall, that was less than ideal, lucky for us a quick perusal on the new website will speak for itself.

The ability to read Market Forces ( and I don't mean just the financial markets ) and react quickly is the determining factor for a corporation's survival.
It is irrelevant wether it is a 500 company or the small sole proprietor or LLC company.

I would revamp the Sunn Amp line. One of the great names in amps that legends were built on.

I wouldn't revamp it. I would reissue it just as they were originally built. PTP. I had a Sunn Scepter in the 70's and that amp not only sounded incredible but was indestructible too.

I would also stop modifying the classic circuits. They are rarely improved. Don't increase or decrease anything and for gods sake stop modifying vintage circuits and changing gain structures. I'd also stop building DSP amps with effects aimed at a 12 year old and calling the "studio quality" and at least make all the parameters adjustable.

The Strat has gone through many, many changes in its run. Some good, some not so good. If you ever played a 50's era Strat, you would know they were no where as consistent as they are today just due to better manufacturing techniques. I had the privilege to play some dogs and some real beauties. The new offerings are much better.

.....

Agreed. I would take that one step further and say that even right through the 60's and into the 70's there was a lot of inconsistency. Some were pure dreams and others were pure nightmares. In them days, a hundred times more so than now, you had to play every guitar in the store to find the one to buy. This is why I absolutely will not even consider investing in vintage guitars. You could buy something on eBay thinking you're getting a great old vintage instrument only to find the reason it is in such great shape is because it was one of the dogs. It didn't get played to death because it wasn't any good. Nobody liked it back then cuz it had no mojo and that's why it sat in its case in the closet or under the bed at gramma's house until she passed away before someone found it and decided to take advantage of the insane prices fetched by old guitars just because they're old.

As to the OP's question, people like old school. Old school sells. Especially if it's old school form and function but with modern quality control. Witness Harley Davidson's V-Rod. A new fandangled Harley with improvements out the wazzoo. Better power, better braking, better lotsa stuff and it sells how many units compared to the standard big twins? The new big twins are prolly the best machines they've ever produced from a quality perspective. They make better power, they don't leak oil anymore, they brake better, they start when they're supposed to, parts don't rattle off the machine anymore but they still retain the tried and true old school form and function and that's what people want. That's what sells and that's why the Japanese big four are doing their utmost to copy them or at least try to capture the same essence. Until we stop gravitating to the old school, Strats, Teles and Les Pauls are going to be the major players.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I agree. I've had my 72 Strat since it was new. Some guy ordered it and never picked it up. I played 6 or 7 before the salesman pulled this one out. That one sounded and played better than the rest of them. That's why I still have it.

I ran mine with the monstrous Sunn 4x12 Cab. You could "feel" every cord and note you played right through your body. 8)
