Haven't been on for a while. Been too busy with schoolwork and everything along that line. And of course practicing on my guitar skillz! :D

Anyway, my question for y'all is whats the best Tab site on the web today? I currently use http://www.ultimate-guitar.com but while most Tabs are complete and really helpful and accurate, a lot of them are incomplete and really inaccurate. I'm just wondering what Tab sites everyone uses on here.

Thanks everyone! Love y'allz 8)

I also use ultimate-guitar, has the best tabs usually but yeah some songs the tabs either blow or there aren't any. I'm sure if you look around you'll find another good one.

I've gone to a place at www.fretplay.com but actually the majority of the Tabs there are incomplete, however not necessarily inaccurate. I just wish there was one site made entirely by pros so they were complete and accurate

Stop wasting your time and start to use your ear a bit more.
Download guitarpro or powertab editor. Listen to the tabs, before you go attempting to learn em. Also there is a better expression of timing with those programs too.

And you'll also find that people taking the time to contribute to those programs tabs are a bit more experienced and put a bit more effort in. Too much in some cases, but atleast you can see exactly whats going on. Also the uploader is often not swayed by the magic of their own skills (to put it politely) when they hear playback as a series of beeping tones.

That is a guideline though. There are some downright deplorable pro and power tabs out there. Just a lot less than regular tab uploads by cloth eared people.

I've been doing that Niki. While that's always fun trying to do that, I don't have the right CD player or whatever it is that can stop a song at a certain part and slow it down so I can dissect it. Just a case of not enough money to buy it and all that ha...

As for guitarpro, being a teenager, that slows up the already slow computer, so I'm not allowed to do that ha..ha :P

Get the crap your parents put on the computer, off the computer (probabaly Norton  ) and put guitarpro on there!
Carpe diem my friend, seize the day!

Well all my previous post aside, be carefull with them online tabs. The books we used to pay for were never accurate. Online tabs less so, despite the number of stars next to em  .
Be carefull out there and use your ear to evaluate for yourself the accuracy of whatever tab.
Also feel free to ask here too. I'll always have a gander at a song and try to get the basic chord structure laid down right. Once you got that, you're the better part of there in my book. Understanding how a song works is aprimary requirement to understanding how to play it. Not the best ear in the world but I aint bad. And you can always say 'Nick that was terrible' without fear of a gang of nobody's ganging up on you.

I must agree with Niki on this one. Lean more on your ear and less on the tab. It is a little frustrating in the beginning but it pays off huge in the long run. Patience, determination and discipline will win the day when wanting to learn songs.

Ultimate guitar is probably the best online tabs IMO. Just use the tabs to point you in the right direction, and then use your ear and tweak this or that to either make it sound right or make it comfortable for you to play. If you listen to songs on cd's and then listen to that same artist play it live, 9 times out of 10 there will be differences. The guitar is about expression, not technicalities. That being said, just enjoy playing and if that means learning songs note for note, then I don't think you'll find many places better than Ultimate Guitar to start out. Unless you want to slow down the computer, then Niki's suggestions should work great

p.s. once you get a better computer, powertab is a great prgram and worth the cash.

Hey -

I use Ultimate-Guitar myself. I think the problems you describe are pretty much universal to every tab site.

Thanks for all the advice, specially Niki  I have noticed that a part in the tabs won't sound quite the same, or it's missing a note or two, and then I'll tweak it to fit what I think it should be. That's simple, but doing the whole song is just really tough to do on my own. It's not the fact I don't have an ear for music (mine's about average I believe), it's just if I need to look at a part to figure (verse, chorus, etc.), I constantly have to rewind it on the CD or Ipod in order to get it done.

And that's kinda painful, considering the CD player is now broken, and the Ipod is almost too

Here's a tip for you on figuring out music. it will get you through any melody or riff and most chord runs and solo's.
Learn to whistle or hum the song/piece/track.
If you can hum it, it means you've got it firmly in your head. Then it's pretty easy. All you have to do is put whats in your head onto a fingerboard. Relatively easy, as long as you don't let what's in your head get jumbled up.
You won't get it bang on right first time, cos instead of comparing notes, your thinking notes. You'll need a little while to adjust.
Being able to hum a tune really works for me and improved my fretboard skills a lot. Once I got familiar with how whats in my head relates to a guitar.
Pretty soon you'll be able to hum the open notes of your guitar and tune to that too, if you practice humming low E first, till you can hit it on command. That will shock some of your mates.

Awesome! Actually...on my last day of lessons my guitar teacher told me about that..I'd completely forgotten it up till now. That will definitely help the process. Thanks a lot! 8)

I use www.ultimate-guitar.com/

although I mainly use my ear. If I am trying to learn a new riff or something I just listen to the song over and over again. Also anything that can slow down the song without altering the pitch is really helpful. My dvd player has that option so I sometimes throw on a live dvd and try to play along, that way you can also see what the guitarist is doing on the fretboard to guide me a little

I've been watching a Steve Vai dvd for 6 years now.... almost got it

as usual i must agree with mr. nik. i must admit, i use tabs sometimes but as a last resort. my band does not cover any tune like the original recording. yes, we probably suck but a few folks have complimented us on our versions.

Nothing wrong with using tabs. Use anything that gets you where you want to be. All I'm really saying is don't rely on em.

They were never that accurate, even back in the dark ages before the internet when we had to pay to look at the books. And somebody was being paid to write em. Instead of someone who means well, uploading one out of the kindness of their heart. But it could well be filled with errors. We've all seen them ain't we. It's not even like you can legitimately have a go at the uploader. For all intents and purposes they've done nothing more than be convinced of something (and we've all been wrong atleast once about something) and tried to help a few people out.

Believe me I don't rely on any one thing ever. I always get the opinion of my missus first (whether I want it or not  ). Then ask my bandmates, before practice. I just throw the bones of a piece down and get em to check. Cos just like anyone else I get things wrong.
