I do both. So it could certainly be coming from somewhere other than guitar playing.

I'd Give Up The Video Games And Switch Fingers On The Phone Or Get A Touchscreen. What's More Important. Besides I've Never Seen Anyone Make A Dime At Video Games. Lol

Relax as much as you can when you play. You have to focus to do this. Keep your wrist as straight as possible, you need to experiment with different fingerings and body position to find comfort. Look up proper guitar posture. Lots of classical books ect.. have information on this subject. I had a struggle with a similar problem not long ago, I ended up changing the way I play certain chords for relief. (I was getting wrist pain when playing "Lenny") I was quick to blame the guitar and other things. However, it was my index finger barring one less string that made all the difference. I was allowing myself to fall out of good playing position to try to play some chords.

my best friend was at one time the world champion at unreal tournament gold.
he was paid very handsomely for his efforts. Midway was his sponsor.

I suffer from tendinitis and carpal tunnel flareups. A few tips..
do some gentle arm and wrist stretches before you begin.
when first playing (each day) play slowly for a minute to warm up the fingers.

When playing, texting, or x-boxing do not bend too much at the wrist in either direction. Keep your wrists rather straight.

Do not squeeze the guitar neck hard. Play with a relaxed grip, as much as possible.
Try lighter gauge strings for a while; try a set beginning with 9's, they might feel a little slinky to you, but they will help you learn to play with a softer grip.

Visiting a doctor is always a good option--especially if it gets worse.

Hey gang. Been learning for about 16 months now on a Strat. Loving it. For the past few days I've had a weird tingle feeling in my fret hand. Mostly in my thumb. It continues even when I'm done playing. It's not unbearable but I notice it and I definitely don't want it to get worse.

Right now I'm practicing the minor pent. scale a lot, tons of power chords. Stuff that has me really bending my wrist and pressing hard with my thumb against the neck. But I'm not sure why it would cause a problem now since I got through learning my barre chords without any tingling. My hand definitely got tired, but nothing like this.

Any advice? I really don't want to stop playing.

is your strat with "v" neck profile?
my playing sometimes includes fretting with thumb
i use a "c" neck strat and does not have any problem
but if i do the same on a classical guitar with "v" neck, it really hurts
