Roland's new GR-55 is now being displayed and I gave it a test drive today. First off, the sounds that are preset are some of the best I've ever heard that can be had with a Stratocaster. 8)

The speed of the following is second to none. I was amazed at how well this new model tracks your playing. If your looking for something really durable and a multi-effect doesn't quite cut it, try one of these puppies out with your Strat...or Tele :

http://www.rolandconnect.com/product.php?p=gr-55

"•Over 900 of Roland’s latest fully editable PCM sounds, including pianos, organs, strings, vintage synths, and much more
•COSM guitar and amp modeling
•Two types of multi-effects engines, plus global reverb, chorus, and delay effects, and an onboard looper"

mike i was a big fan of the 707 as seen in the steve stevens vidoe off the link you just gave. it was pretty cool. ive been actively looking for one for a while now. it was a fun toy to have and could do tons of stuff. what did this unit cost do you remember?
it would be great for home recordings.

Approx $700 for the GR-55 unit and $800 with the MIDI pickup package.

not a bad price i guess. to much for me to pay for something i would only use as a toy though. i tend to like all the "keyboard" type sounds.

$799 with the GK3 pickup is cheap when you consider that the Roland GR700/G707 combo cost me $2100 new back in 1984. Still sounds good and draws puzzled looks whenever I decide to show it off.

ebay is your best bet, I see G-707s on there frequently. Somebody just listed a GR-700 starting at $149, and there is a G-707 listed, but somebody painted it pink :(
