I'm looking into a new amp, but I can't really decide between an Orange Tiny Terror and a Fender Deluxe Reverb..... My dilemma here is that I love the overdriven sound on the Orange, but it doesn't have reverb and I wouldn't be able to afford a reverb pedal. On the other hand, the reverb from the deluxe reverb is (obviously) awesome, but the amp doesn't have much overdrive to speak of. What are your opinions on which amp is better and why?

That's a rather nice dilemma to have, I must say. Just curious, before I take a shot at an answer, what do you intend on doing with the amp (i.e. studio work/gigging/hobby)?

I'm 14, so for the time being just hobby, however me and my friend are starting a band so practice and ideally small gigs in the future

Floyd, your not going to like the drive of the Bjr. Not getting into it about that amp, but it's wrong for you. If you wanna play rock'n'roll or psychobilly you could get away with it. It's just no use for what you like to listen to.

If I were looking anywhere at amps of a certain amount of power, to cover a multitude of sounds. With reverb and a good variety of drive. Get a Deluxe or Bandmaster VM.

Other than that I'd tell you to get the orange and forget the reverb if thats what your decided on.

The Hot Rod Deluxe III is a nice amp, that I think sounds great. It can definitely handle gigs with a drummer. It has nice overdrive, and reverb as well so you'd be set.

For the stage you are at, I would reccomend a Mustang or a Line 6 Spider.

I was actually just re-reading and noticed his signature. For punk I'd say go with the tiny terror. Most punk's not going to use a ton of reverb I don't think. And the Tiny Terror has incredible overdrive.

Tim as your more than aware, as he ages, his tastes will change or more accurately expand. Entirely why I think he's better off to get a solid amp that does a multitude of sounds.
Non of them type of amps excell at one sound, but give a good base for all kinds of sounds.

FWIW, one of my practice amps is an Orange Dual Terror head with a PPC 212 cab and I'm in a powerpop punk band(think Dillinger Four or Alkaline Trio). If price is no issue, I swear by Orange.

But based on his age, and I presume income, a great solidstate amp with good presets could get him the sound he desires. And offer a few others to experiment with.

Indeed. I suppose I've been through more than one "phase" as a musician, and that has resulted in a revolving door effect with much of the equipment I've aquired over the years. I'd suppose that something like a Line 6 Spider Valve amp, while not my favorite tone in the world but good, would have been a great thing for me to have as I was finding my own style.

See that is exactly my experience too. My thinking going along the lines of get a good amp that does it all ok to well. Then when you're 30 odd know what you like and what you don't, based on personal experience. Rather than public opinion.
The Fender VM range are valve and to my ear don't try as hard to emulate other amps, like say line6 would. But rather offer a Fender take on those amps. It makes for some nice usable tones that are slightly left of center.

This topic would be an interesting thread, Personal Amp Evolution and why :?:

Sorry I cannot really add much to this discussion, as my preference of HR Deluxe, 600 Champ, Blues Junior (tweed Eminence speaker) and Magnatone really may not fit in with the OP's inquiry :?
