I realized a long time ago the gauge of strings ..make a difference on the sound of your guitar...some guitars just sound better according to the amp,fx's, or just how hard you play..like acoustic for example..usually played harder to be heard. I also notice...seems like certain type of music ..say Blues tend to use more of a medium gauge..and Tele owners tend to use an Extra light gauge. What i found most interesting was what most of my favorite guitarist where using. There was a site one time i found that had a list of a bunch ..like Stevie Ray and Eric Clapton, but i not been able to find...
I do have this one here...
alvinleeDotcom/equipment.html
has his set-up interesting.
if you have any string setups add..

on my guitars: 62 reissue jazzmaster, squier tele w/ bigsby, and partscaster, I string all with GHS: TNT's (10-52) gives me a heavy sound while retaining flexibility in the higher register.

I use D'Addario 8-38s and can get real heavy tone from them as I really bash at the strings anyway.Tony Iommi and Billy Gibbons use 7s for the high E and John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix used extremely light gauge strings.

I've been all over the map with strings. Started with regular .10s, jumped to 12-56, backed off to regular .11s when I realized .12s weren't going to happen in standard tuning. I finally settled on 10-52s for standard. I can still get nice tone and not kill my fingers bending. For Eb or lower I still prefer the 12-56s.

I don't have the strength for anything thicker than 0.0105's GHS makes a David Gilmour set with these. I've tried 0.011's on my Tele, but my hand fatigues quickly and my playing suffers. But (I think) I hear the difference and prefer thicker gauges.

no pain no gain?

last time I changed strings on my acoustic I mistakenly bought 13's and needless to say it has hardly been touched, hope to put 11's back on it soon.

as for electric, always 10's

I use .010's-.046's. I've always thought of trying .011's or even .012's because I think I'd prefer the tone, but judging from acoustic .012's, I doubt I'd be satisfied with the bending difficulties.

I cannot play .009's without playing out of tune all too often.

Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9s on all of my electrics. I used to use 11s, but I got tired of the forearm cramps during gigs. lol

For me it's all about the low E string. I play mostly blues-rock (SRV, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Hendrix) and with the low E the bigger the better. My low E is 0.58 and has a nice deep & open tone. Perfect for the slides and open notes Hendrix/SRV just throw in there.
