So today I went and picked up an '87 or '88 Ibanez Roadstar II series RG120 from my uncle for a mere $150. He gave it to me so low because it needs a few things fixed wiring wise, but it still plays, and honestly it sounds great and has one of the best necks I have ever felt. So yeah I'm stoked. And yes I know, no pic = no guitar...here she is.

Sweet! :D Made in Japan or otherwise?

Looks like a fun guitar... Never really heard of it though...

That's a nice looking guitar.
The body contours are really sweet.
Congrats.

Yes he does. He has a collection of rather nice guitars ranging from the 70's to the 90's as well as a few nice amps. We still get together and jam from time to time. I also have an 86 year old great aunt that plays, and has since she was nine. She has an original late 60's Jaguar and a vintage Vibro Lux to match.
Thatnks for the comments on the guitar. And yes, MIJ.

I like it. Particularly the body contours, kind of like the Mosrite Johnny Ramone guitar.

Thanks Niki...I'm pretty happy with it. The body contours just make me think of a Strat had it been slightly more exaggerated. And I love the color. It was a very white white back when he got when I was a kid, and over the years it's taken on what I'll call nicotine yellow...lol...and IMO it looks great. Best thing about it is the coil tapping. You can go from a pretty mellow single coil sound to a pretty hot humbucker in one or both positions, and I love to blend single coil and humbucker, sounds great. Needless to say this thing is gonna get some use once I iron the few minor issues it has.

I love strat's and tele's, have done for a few years now. We ignore the 'inspired by' guitars at our peril. In the late 50's/60's when Strat's weren't readily available in the UK, we had a spate of builders offering their take on the design. Burns, Baldwin, Watkins and to a lesser degree Vox. Non of em were the absolute archetypal rock guitar. However they made some interesting sounds.

Yep I see exactly what you mean about the exaggerated strat shape.

Love the stack of LP's behind that nice Ibanez 8) .

There is something about acquiring a nice guitar for a bargain, and when lucky enough that it is from a relative then it has a special place because of the personal interaction.
Unfortunately I am the only musician in my family tree but the closest to your experience would for me, be my Magnatone since that came from a 36+ year friendship.

Iv'e had Ibanez's in the past, many moons ago and they always were quality instruments albeit an obvious copy cat design of our favorite Fender's.

53magnatone...Thanks. I started going to thrift shops when I was like 12, and I would pick up pretty much any records they had that seemed interesting. I've got a little of everything from The Ventures to Glen Campbell, Elvis, Creedence...and the list goes on and on. That stack in the picture is about half of my collection; that's all the records that truly inspired me when I was first really getting into playing music on a serious level.
