Im looking for a cheap pawn shop fender guitar thats vintage but not widely used, example would be the Jaguar pre 90s alternative rock break out, it was forgotten, stuffed into pawn shops, and sold for $500 tops. What are some common vintage Fenders i would be looking at today? My local pawn shop is redneck owned and operated by fat $@! stereotypical NASCAR fans who get hard ons from Glocks so any ideas??????????

vintage fenders and pawn shops arent two words often found together.
if your lucky enough to find a "vintage" fender in a pawn shop they are gonna want top dollar for them even if they arent worth the asking price.
ive been hitting the pawn stores in this are since 1992. ive only ran into 1 real vintage fender and they asking price was huge and wasnt worth it. they have a book they go buy. they always ask top dollar then add 10% for good measure.
the way out of the way redneck pawn shops are usually the best ones to dig in.

You'd have a hard time finding pawn shop vintage prizes these days.Around here the most common pawn shop "Fenders"are MIK Squiers and countless Strat knock-offs. I imagine that it's probably the same everywhere.

Pawnshops know what they're doing, any guitar of real value will be put up on ebay. The best you'll probably get at a pawn shop is a MIM.

it is. you gotta get out and network the pawn shops. let them know your interested.
a lot of times pawn shops have a hard time selling guitars of quality because they mark them up to high. yes its their own fault but they do.

I've frequented pawn shops off and on through the years, no such luck finding vintage guitars, much less for a bargain price. Better off finding x-players through networking and make them an offer or a trade; maybe a Glock or a set of collectible NASCAR plates.

Where I live I have not seen any "vintage" Fender guitars. The oldest fender I have found was a '92 MIA Strat they were asking $999 for. Not much of a bargain. Keep looking, deals are there to be found, just have to keep looking.

For 500.00, you can get a NEW MIM Strat.

The Black top Jazz or Jag is about the same.

I'm just sayin'.........

As previously stated by some other members, I wouldn't be banking on the pawn shop. The most common Fender guitars found at pawn shops around here are off-brand pieces of junk.

In all honesty, if you're looking for an interesting Fender guitar, your best bet would be to buddy up with your local guitar shop. I'm not talking Guitar Center or some other lame mega-store... I'm talking about a shop like "Groovy Gramp's Guitars" or something of the nature. Most of the time you'll find a wealth of knowledge (far beyond most of the chumps that work at Guitar Center) and an array of expertise. These are the kind of people that could very well point you in the direction of what you're looking for and more. It's a safe bet that they'll be very familiar with what they stock and offer you help before and after purchase.

Redneck Jethro will probably just want you to buy the guitar and get the hell out

Cheers,
Chris

ive found some good deals on CL before, worth checking it several times a day.
ive found my best deals on other forums that arent guitar related. i just post up a ad every so often. looking back, ive made several killer deals over the last yr doing that.

As mentioned, Craigslist is where you want to look, interesting $@!& pops up a lot. Pawn shops all you are gonna see are Squiers and maybe MIMs. Dont get hung up in looking for vintage, you are gonna find a higher quality new guitar for way, way less. Unless you're just a collector looking for a piece, in which case...

That Jazzmaster is a good deal, has anyone tried the Squier Jagmaster, i might try that out next seeing as how Squiers are easily moded, ill probably throw some SD Hot Rail or Blues Humbuckers on it

Jagmaster is legit but Squier actually have new Jazzmaster and Jaguars coming out, however like the Blacktops they are missing the tone circuits of those guitars

Yeah Craigslist is probably the best because of the fact you'll find people that need money immediately or some young folks that got a guitar for the first time as a gift or something and have decided that it's not for them, so they sell it for little or nothing not knowing what it's worth, or not caring because the parents paid for it. Doesn't happen often but if you watch you'll eventually find one. YMMV!!
