Hi There.

Your style of music is quite "Out there" and is something that for me sounds better after a couple shots of tequila. :)

You are a very good player, your Bassist is really tight, the drummer is master of multi timing all together it is eclectic and fun.

I think I said this once before, but I really do not care for the sax player, he's to brash and in your face, and out of time with the rest of you.
I would like to hear you all as a threesome.

But that is just my blues loving opinion, please take it with a big grain of salt.

Thanks for the kudos! And criticism is noted. My sax player is coming from an avant gard, modern classical perspective..... he's played with Stockhausen, if that means anything. So "out" is appropriate.

Great tone from the Princeton.

The music on the other hand is a little too much for my ears. I know you didn't ask for my opinion in the matter, but i just wanted to share a tidbit. I had a roommate back in college that was a great friend of mine. He played the loudest raucous avant-garde bop guitar I had ever heard, along with smooth jazz stylings and real "out there" stuff. I've listened to some of your other tunes you've posted on here and i can't help but note a missing element in your improvisational jams.... It's the lack of a foundation or a connecting thread on which the jam is based. It sounds like one big tuning session. There's no refrain or at least no simple phrase to insert here or there to bring the audience back to the same plane of existence before blasting off into another world.

Again, this is just one guy's take on the subject and I would love to hear your thoughts. I thoroughly appreciate the stuff you are creating though! Immensely tight band.

Cheers!
-Chris

Yes, you are right. We are improvising sans structure. Trying to avoid the "head" arrangements that dominated jazz since the 1940's. More of an Ornette Coleman influence from his Free Jazz period.

Though this will soon be changing. I'm composing new material for my band. Our next gig will NOT be totally free improv. I still don't like symmetry ....... so there will be no "going back" to a common thread. More like storytelling. Or like classical music. No repeats.

And that right there is why I love music. Everyone has their own personal take on the sound... the quintessential evocation of soul, story, and energy. I dig it. Good luck with the new material!

It's awesome to delve into your style a bit. I'm fascinated by it since it's beyond my ordinary catalog of material that I'm used to. Make sure you keep us posted with any new performances.

Cheers
-Chris

Yes! Love The Bad Plus..... great stuff. I have three of their CD's. I might even listen to one right now. I like the way they take rock tunes and twist them all up. Smells Like Teen Spirit! Brilliant! I'd like to hear them live someday, but I keep missing them.

I'm not sure they've ever played a gig in Ireland.
All I need to be happy is a dark room, a warm bed, and a copy of For "All I Care" by The Bad Plus and Wendy Lewis.
