Yes. I hope things have changed but at the time, every piece of software I wanted required the next OS up and so on and so forth, hence the switch to PC. At least, as a PC-using teacher, I can get 'free' software and OS through my school perfectly legally as my home computers are covered by the school's site licences.

I refuse to use a Windows platform, Vista is " Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery " but with all the bugs and accessibility to virus's as before.

I haven't actually had the opportunity to use a Mac since but I do not question their superiority over PCs. Vista is abysmal. My music PC runs under XP.

I use XP on my PC. Never had any problems with it but I've heard that Vista has had plenty of problems. No experience with Vista myself so I can't say anything about it for sure.

Let's put it this way: I tried several MIDI/audio sequencers and not a single one would run in time. They would all slow down and accelerate. I also had sound banks in VSTi that kept disappearing and re-appearing again unexpectedly. It baffled the hell out of the guys at Arturia.

Incidentally, I see you're in Louisiana. I've been there twice, in '02 and '05 (pre-Katrina). Loved it. The southern welcome is definitely not a myth.

No Sir, it's not a myth! Most people in this part of the country will treat you like family. Come back soon and give me a shout and we'll "Pass a good time" as the saying goes in South Louisiana!!

One of the reasons I switched to Mac back in 98 was that I was promoter of a cycling stage race as well as having to wear many hats which included writing the articles for a local magazine as well as illustrating and designing the jersey's and etc..etc.. At the time I was on Windows 98 and it was guaranteed to crash at the worst possible time as it did many times. That and the difficulty of illustrating on Windows compared to Mac was the potential nail in the coffin..

They did treat us like family. And being French, we were made very welcome by the Cajun-speaking people we came across in the Lafayette/Henderson area. I fell in love with New Orleans (which the tourist guides tend to describe it as a seedy and dangerous place) and the Jungle Gardens in Avery Island, opposite the Tabasco factory. I also had the chance of meeting Frankie Jean Lewis (Jerry Lee's sister) in Ferriday but didn't have time to stop in Bâton-Rouge, unfortunately.

That's not all! That year, we drove down from Chicago to visit friends in Jacksonville IL, down to Memphis TN for a few days and a double wedding at the Chapel-In-The-Woods at Graceland, down to New Orleans and back again. I spent a few days in Nashville TN and Tupelo MS as well. Two years later, it was Denver CO to Cheyenne WY to Mount Rushmore (Rapid City, SD) to Devil's Tower WY, Buffalo WY, Little Bighorn MT, Billings MT, Yellowstone, Grand Teton and back to Denver.
Last year we did NYC and DC.
In 2012, finances permitting: San Francisco, Yosemite, L.A., Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and Denver again. I love the States!
