A couple of hours ago I received a notice about a group being formed to get imprisoned sex offenders kicked off Facebook.I joined immediately stating that Facebook and prison officials are basically giving these cowardly, predatory creeps a catalogue of potential victims to prey on once they get out. There are all kinds of scams and God knows what other kinds of illegal activity being perpatrated by inmates as it is but to allow these lowlifes access to Facebook is downright dangerous.I guess that the freedom of speech crowd etc. would get their panties in a knot by denying these poor prisoners their civil rights and the prison officials would rather endanger the public than rile up the prisoners or God forbid get sued for breeching their civil rights.

Even weenie-waggers deserve "snivel rights" or so it would seem.

Whenever you get upset about injustice in our society...you can "thank" a lawyer. He/She is the one that argued the case...

The term "sex offender" is too broad of a term to get so excited about. For example, an over 18 year-old getting caught with his under 18 year-old girlfriend, is branded as a sex offender. You can be charged with statutory rape, yet another "sex offense", just for dating an under age girl (ie, 18 yr old male with 16 yr old girl). People used to get married at these young ages, now it's considered a sex offense. Soliciting a hooker is also considered a sex offense. If you are talking about pedophiles, then that is different story, give 'em hell.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Yeah... FB is stalker.com in my book.

I honestly think it's not a great thing to let them have. I mean come on- if a gang boss can control his gang through telephone and codewords, how would it be beyond a creeper to creep on the internet? I don't think we should allow it. Monitor it maybe. Even better- maybe get FB to make a new kind of account with which they can only check (and reply to) messeges.

in my state if you get caught pissing outside, even hiking, hunting, fishing, and get caught, you can and most likely will get tried as a sex offender. its happened.

Of all the subjects to post about in the world of music guitslinger, you pick the one this thread is about. A song about why it is so important to love someone. There won't ever be enough songs about that in every musical way under the sun ( and moon if you're nocturnal ). It's possible to prevent such predatory thoughts from taking hold of sick people. IMHO. If some of this group from your post had heard one of those songs early in life they might not have hurt anyone. Think about it that way. You're a musician, write the song that will work the miracle of love. Bro I'm thinking Fender is synonymous with music, if there are police officers among us guitar players here and you can bet that there are, they don't come here to talk about work.

Hi guitslinger: do you think? I'm strongly for freedom of speech and civil rights - and I can't imagine why sex offenders should be allowed access to FaceBook. We have exclusion orders to keep them away from the school gate: this is simply the same issue on the internet. Right?

I see no contradiction there. Just common sense.

Have FaceBook commented on it?

Cheers - C

They gave them up until completion of their sentences in my opinion.

I wasn't even aware that people in prison had access to computers.

I thought Prisoner did not have access to computers in which they can chat or talk like they are not allowed cell phones because they can not be monitored.

That's my question as well. Since when are prisoners allowed access to computers? And especially the internet.
I'm also curious if Facebook has had anything to add to the story.

People in Prison still have some rights, we want them when released to be productive members of society once again, this is too broad of a brush stroke, many people in Prison have proven to be rehabed ( hate that word, it is condescending ) redirected to become members of society once again, it is why in this country the court system is as it is. Perfect NO ! but locking everyone up and throwing away the key or disregarding them as worthless only harms us when they are released with years of contempt issues.
I am not advocating everyone in prison is a good person but if anyone is thrown in jail I would like to know there is the true definition of justice.
