I was wondering if someone know something about some commercial relationship between Fender and Seymour Duncan. My question is becouse I've seen that some squier guitars have duncan design pick ups.

That is an interesting question. I replaced the low output original 6 pole strat pickup in my 78 Musicmaster bass with a Seymour Duncan "quarter pounder" 4 pole. And that pickup looks suspiciously alot like the "vista tone" 4 pole that's in my Squier Musicmaster.

The pickups equally rock, both basses sound great.

My Custom Shop Gilmour came with a SD SSL-5 in the bridge position so I assume they do have a relationship.

And towards the other end of the catalog my Lite Ash Tele came with "Duncan designed" pickups. There's clearly a working relationship going on.

Fender use parts and input from all sorts of suppliers and Seymour Duncan is clearly one of them. Behind the scenes the musical instrument world is often smaller and friendlier than we sometimes imagine.

Cheers - C

You are quite right Ceri. My 57 Twin Tweed has Ted Weber designed speakers in it so it is a small world.

Ceri a question for you Please.

Since we are on a Seymour Duncan topic, I just picked up yesterday an SD HB103B bridge 0503 it is going to be a SSH setup. both NM pup serial number is 016730, they came with a body pickguard, Vint. trem. a bargain. I have no idea what these S pups are but intend to hook everything up with this configuration. 250K Vol. 250K Tone + TBX tone and single to dual coil capability thru the five way for a NM, NB (single coil), MB(single coil), M only and B only.
Have you tried anything similar ?
Thanks.

Hi 53: I am so honored that you'd ask me - and a bit embarrassed, because I truly am one of the electronics dunces round here. That's real, not some strange false modesty.

However, I can just about follow a wiring diagram and I know that what you want can be achieved using the Super Switch:

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics ... ns#details

See the diagram further down that page for options.

I know it can do the connections you want and I think in the order you named. Luckily, help is on hand because some of the grown-up wiring gurus discussed how to wire that switch on AndyBigHair's Super Switches for Ninjas thread. Here it is:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=46935

Even I can understand some of that! I'm afraid someone else is going to have to advise you about the TBX. I am further embarrassed to admit I've never used one!

Best of luck - and if you feel like posting some photos of your wiring when you're done there's those of us here that will certainly be learning from them! :D

Cheers - C

There was a thread on Abby visiting the Duncan shop a year or so ago. I can't seem to find it using the search tool though.

Thanks C.
I thought that since you're snowed in again with the leopards, you may have come across this set up.
But I still need to confirm what those SS's are, wether Vint. MIM or just the plain vanilla's.
I believe the body they came with was a standard.

As soon as I can I will post a pictorial thread of before and after of this particular build.

Seymour Duncan Designed pup's are in many brands of guitars.. I have an Ibanez and a Samick both w/ SD humbuckers. I'm not positive, but I believe the "designed" implies that another manufacturer (perhaps the guitar manufacturer) makes the pup under a licensing agreement W/ SD.

There were a couple of models that came with actual SD pups, not just Duncan designed.
Big Apple and Lone Star come to mind. My Korean Koa top Strat came with SD AlNiCo Pro IIs. I'm sure there must have been others as well. In fact I think I heard somewhere that the reason you can't buy a SD Pearly Gates trembucker in cream is due to them only making them in cream for Fender guitars. Some kind of proprietary contract. Far as I know that's just a rumour. I've never substantiated it. Maybe somebody here has better intel on that issue. I heard this from a music store salesman when I wanted to put one in one of my Strats but I wanted cream and it only came in black, white or zebra (plus some other fugly colors like purple and green).

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

My bridge pup is a straight up SD SSL-5 not one designed like one. It's a CS guitar though so I don't know for sure about production line guitars.
