Hi Everyone. I'm new to the guitar, have been playing for a few months and have decided on the DRRI as my amp.

I was wanting suggestions on an OD pedal, since there is no OD channel on the amp, and I have only my bedroom to rock out in by myself (hence my screen name)

So, which pedal if any, do people use?

+1 for getting into guitar, it's a great thing.

Perhaps a DRRI is a lot of amp for the bedroom. It will be very loud, and to get decent tube saturation it must be turned up loud. Just a suggestion, but a smaller less wattage tube amp may be more fitting for home use. There are a lot to choose from. But, if you got the cash anything is possible.

As for a OD pedal it depends on the type of sound/tone you want. Best thing it to demo them at the store to see what they sound like it will help narrow your search.

Questions such as yours are very relative as to individual opinions. It's impossible to say what the best overdrive pedal would be. But I personally am a big fan of the MXR Wylde distortion (Zakk Wyldes sig pedal). It has great overdrive tones from gritty to screaming, it'll cover pretty much all bases. hth

Check out DMB pedals.

The Stellar Drive and Lexi are both very good OD pedals for a reasonable price, made in America and will give you good OD for the DRRI. Depends if you are going for a versatile OD or British voiced OD. The three knob is perfect for a bedroom rockers at $100, but you can also score a blemished one with a few paint chips on it for less sometimes.

Hey lone rocker

Going by assumption of your name I will suggest to try Digitech Bad monkey as well as it is not too much money and it can give you very decent drive and a variety of tones.
I have DRRI (22 W) and SCXD (15 W) and I prefer DRRI for low volume play even though it's a louder amp. I like SCXD for small club jam situation since I don't need to carry any pedals with it (comes equipped with the channel switching and other tone manipulations on board).

I'll tell you some things to consider:
- High quality expensive pedal is not worth that much when you are playing at low volumes.
- To have nice drive and still watch TV kind of volume connect your guitar to input 1 (input 2 is approx 6db louder) set volume between 1.5 and 2 and engage od pedal and tweak the tone as per your liking.
- On DRRI I like input 2 better for normal (loud) play but as I mentioned it is louder than input 1.
- DRRI stock has less headroom than you would think especially wit the HB equipped guitar. My Gibson drives the tubes even when I dial 4 on the volume, strats usually do it around 5-6.

Hope that helps.

Not sure what your budget is but the ZVEX Box of Rock will make that DRRI sound like a Marshall !!!

thanks everyone!

I'm guessing I should explain a bit more. I want the DRRI because it was the amp used on lots of albums. Especially in the 80's pop and surf genres, and I really, really like the tube driven vibrato channel on it. Nothing else will do.

I'm about to move into my own place, so I'll have a bit bigger of a practice space. Nothing in the way of a man-cave, but I'll at least have a bigger bedroom, maybe even a den to practice in.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll have a list for the man at the store, for sure.

Peace out
