I went up to the Travis Bean factory and met Travis Bean. I ordered a Travis Bean Artist and got one with a two-digit serial number. It was beautiful carved koa wood. It sounded fine and was very stable. On the down side, it weighed about 11 pounds and the neck always felt cold.

dude this aint facebook or twitter.... if a conversation starts, a conversation stars....

also, Kramers point wasnt really to reduce weight, just to make their own aluminum necked guitars.... the reason for the wood inserts was to avoid legal issues with senor Bean

Your correct. I should have said, ONE of Kramers IDEA's.

These early Kramers had aluminum "skeletal" neck. These necks, designed for sustain, contained slots that ran the length of the neck for holding the wood fills in place. The idea of the wood inlays were to reduce the coldness feel of aluminum. At least thats what Vintage kramer said.

Heres the link.http://www.vintagekramer.com/alum.htm
