Ok i bought a Boss Ds-1 Distortion Pedal today. When i got home i put a 9v battery into it, then i plugged my Monster instrument cable into the in/out on my amp and into the input on my pedal. I then plugged my Fender cable from the output plug on the pedal to my guitar. This should work right but its not. Any Suggestions or does someone see a flaw in the way i set it up? Thank You

I think I understand how you did it.... it seems backward

Plug your guitar into the input of the peddle, and plug the output of the peddle to the input of the amp

Hope this helps

Bill

Are you sure that your 9 volt battery is not dead? Or a bad guitar cable maybe? Good luck.

I changed the battery. I changed the order of the cables. Im done messing with it i think im going to the local guitar store tommorow im going to see what they say and see if its the pedal. If its not the pedal im buying new cables and possibly a new amp cuz this crappy little peavy isnt doing the trick.

just to be clear you have the guitar going into the input and the amp into output correct?

Yea I asked myself those questions messed with the knobs on the guitar the pedal and amp. And yes the light does come on when I press down on the pedal I'm thinking its probably the cables because I have changed all the other factors. At first I thought it might be a bad connection from the battery to the internal parts becuase when I tested the pedal I used a 9v power adapter but if it was a bad connection the light wouldn't come on I don't think.

Easy enough to check the cables...just run each one straight from the guitar to the amp to check signal path. Either it'll work or it won't. If both work it's your box or your hook-up.

The signal goes from your guitar INTO the box, then OUT of the box INTO the normal INPUT of your amp.

If you need a pimply Guitar Center clerk to tell you that, you're hoeing a mighty long row.

If the battery was next to dead, it could still have enough juice to light the indicator light, but not enough juice to power the pedal. So I think that's still a possibility.
I think the right thing to do is to cover all your bases. And if you can narrow it down that the pedal is the problem, defintely take it back, I'm sure they'll replace it for you if it's faulty.

Make sure volume knobs and level knobs on amp/pedal/guitar are turned to a reasonable level.
As nevin said run the cables from guitar to pedal input; from pedal output to amp input.
Make sure you have a good battery or ac adaptor.

If it still doesn't work it's probably a faulty pedal. Good luck. hth

Alright today i went to the guitar shop and the guy in the shop suggested we take it apart and see if maybe a solder point had came loose when we took it apart a strong odor of burnt wires or plastic came from inside so i believe this may be the reasoning behind the issues i have had with my Boss Ds-1 distortion pedal. Once again thank you to everybody who responded to my post.
