Hi Tochai: if you like Tom Wolfe's writing then I strongly, strongly suggest you pick up The Great Shark Hunt by Hunter S Thompson, a compendium of his journalism. If you do then a gentleman of your years will probably want to skip the 1970s political stuff for the time being - though it is very good, fun writing to wade into once you're ready. Instead begin with the title piece and then move on to the article called The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved. By then you'll have got the flavour of the thing and can find your own way around.

Another interesting HST volume is his book Hells Angels. I read it as a kid and find it still stands up today all these years later. Wild content, though his writing style is a little calmer than it got later on.

And ultimately you will graduate to Fear and Loathing in Las Vagas. That's the one where "when the going gets weird the weird turn pro"...

Hunter S Thompson is to Tom Wolfe what Led Zeppelin is to Abba. In the end, Tom Wolfe is just a fancy stylist in a white suit: Thompson is the real thing.

Cheers - C

Hells Angels has been on my list for awhile, but so have all the ones I mentioned earlier, and I need to finish the Hitch Hiker's Guide series. Then I've been meaning to get "House of Leaves" and "Only Revolutions" by Mark Z. Danielewski, which are both fairly expensive for paper backs.
I'm still not much of a reader though.
