Well I recently got a Big muff, and today its been giving me this unbearable hum!
I mean, its so loud, even when the volume and sustain is rolled off.

I have no other effects in the chain, just my strat-> muff-> amp.

The hum only happens when the 9v adapter is plugged in. HOWEVER, the muff doesn't even work without the adapter...

I emailed EHX support, but they'll probably tell me to send it back. I've only had it for about a week... :(

Any help, suggestions, or experiences?

It sucks too, I been having the worst experiences with all things electronic lately. I been looking forward to using this pedal...

At least the thread title is an eye-catcher...

Edit: I think the name too may had to deal with when Matthews was working with Guild to redesign theirFoxey Lady fuzz box... But thats just a guess.

I'm considered by many to be a Muff doctor. It sounds like you got a bad Muff on your hands. Just be glad your not stuck with it the rest of your life like so many others. If all your cables and 9v adapter are good, send it back. Can you try a 9v battery in it?

Yep, but the problem is no sound comes out, even when the led light shows that the muff is on...

SHE LIVES!!!!! :D *but only on battery power alone...

now I just got to figure out if its my 9v adapter thats making the terrible noise, or if there is something foul when I plug the muff up to the adapter...

There is nothing worse than a faulty adapter causing a Muff malfunction..... 8)

Theres a whole school of internet mythology that fuzz's should only operate on battery power. Zinc chloride batteries being the ultimate choice, usually kicking out around 6.5-7 Volts. Gotta have that battery well worn in (yes I put a voltmeter on a good sounding battery. Oh the shame of it all).

For all the rant i come about a lot of the mythology in the guitar world. Battery powered fuzz is the one I adhere to. I can't get away from it. I heard it when I was 15 and I hear it now, with certain circuits.

Anyway Smokey, send your pedal back. It should work right however you decide to power it.

Haha sorry for the letdown nonniG

And I never knew the myth about fuzzes and 9v batteries. Thats pretty cool, and I think thats why with EHX's new Germanium 4 Big Muff, theres a "Voltage" knob that lets you emulate the sound of a dying 9v battery on the big muff side.

Now I just need to get some 9v batteries....

Yep zinc chloride, not alkaline and make sure they've got the shine worn off em.

Seriously as much as I hate mythology and take most things I used to believe with more than a pinch of salt until their proved or disproved. That's one I can't get rid off. I think it pertains to more than fuzz's too. Most analogue pedals sound better for battery use.
