Very nice G&L bmw-ktm! You definitely should have held on to that beauty. I have seen a few G&Ls with P-90s, I'll probably give them a closer look in the future. Or my upcoming project may just end up with p-90s...no telling.

Still looking at buying a ASAT Classic...I am reserching the value and quality of a Tribute. I have already played one and I like the sound and playability....

Its all about the cash though, ain't it?

I have found a lot of the tone I want. I cannot afford it though. :? That is my New Year's resolution, to improve my financial situation.

Guitar - Telecaster TC-90 with P90 pups & playing on the neck pup

Amp - Fender Blues Jr. with Bill M mods (Texas Heat Speaker)

Settings
Reverb @ 2.5
Master @ 8
Middle @ 4
Bass @ 9
Treble @ 8
Presence @ 3 o'clock
Volume @ 3.5

Sound??????....smooth as buttah! 8)

Beaubs,
Been meaning to ask..how did you come across the tone?
Just by accident in twiddling the knobs one day or had you been growing into it by having a "base" tone and zeroing in?

Tyronne, stumbled across it. I kept moving toward the neck pickup on my guitar and then changing the tone stack, reverb, volume, maaster and the new presence settings on amp I just fell into the sound. I now keep those setting as is and move from neck to neck / bridge depending on how bright I want the tone. It is a cool thing although I am sure I will be moving on at some point although I really like having a point of reference for what is pleasing to my ear....

How is that DRRI? I have test one at the music store...they are tone machines I know that for sure....

Ah! Then there's hope!
Hopefully I'll stumble into a similar situation...thanks!

The DRRI is starting to mellow in sound...honestly at first the sound was kind of shrill or ice-picky and I was nervous. More so thru my Strat than the Tele. After reading thru this forum and others I found that it's normal for this to happen and that the speaker breaks-in after a while. It has started to so I'm feeling better.

Yup lots of possible tones and I've been playing around with jumpering the inputs from one to the other and playing with the controls on each to see how they effect it. The more I dig into it the more it changes!! Oh to have such problems!!!

I'll be doing some work on my Strat and Tele in the next week...ordered a new PG for the Strat with matching knobs, will be adding the bridge pup to the 2nd tone control ala the Deluxe Strats, I believe. My current PG is a loaded one I bought thru DiMarzio that has the Area 57,61 and 68 pups. The mid pup isn't tied into a Tone control. Yet!
String change and setup as well while I'm there!

The Tele needs a string change and setup and I'll take the PG off just to see what it looks like inside. Will take the V/T control panel out too to have a look. Thinking about rolling the edges on the neck with a screwdriver...and maybe some minor fret dressing...the dreaded fret-sprout is happening with the drier air in the house.

Hey it's Winter so can't do much outside but chop wood for the fire!

Wife wants me to do work in one of our bathrooms..I want to play guitar!

A version of Tone would be my rather simple set up 8) Dismiss the effects gadgets as I never use them, not sure why I've kept them, only to hook them up recently and instantly realise why they are more problems than benefit :?

Ah !! Yes !! It is a 410 Custom, from 1961-63, about a 15 watt, one 12 inch speaker, 2 guitar inputs, 1 vol. 1 tone, vibrato with speed and intensity, a toggle switch for mellow or bright.
I traded a friend a 12 string EKO which was bought in Italy. To this day I still believe I got the better deal, but he did not have any use for it.

There is a dedicated website for Magnatone which is a great info site. As far as sound :) :) it is a vintage sound that you cannot replicate with effects.
You can go to the http://www.frettedamericana.com website or http://www.philx.com website. many of the vintage guitar video's on that site are played thru a Tonemaster which is a Magnatone.

My amp as you can see is a bit dogeared but is in great working order otherwise. The speaker was replaced about thirty years ago, the result of piggy backing, back then I did not realize that to this severely shortens a speakers lifespan.
It is best sounding when coupled with vintage pickups, but SCN's work really well also.
Albeit it is not the quietest of amps

I have exactly the same problem with my Watkins. Theres no earth in the amps circuit that I can see. Someone tried to suggest that I replace the capacitors at one point. Yeah right like thats going to happen.

Well maybe it will when I can find a good source for Mullard Mustard's. The noise doesn't stop me either. You can't hear it when your playing.

I tried a big old Magnatone a while back. I think it was a early 50's. Nice amp, very nice. Having a bit of experience with Eko 12strings. I completely agree, you got the better deal.

Hey Nikinja,
which EKO ? actually the main reason I traded was because two weeks after having the guitar, my uncle drove us to Vintimiglia italy to pick it up, my then twelve year old cousin dropped it on it's head and split the headstock

On another note, I think I just got myself into very hot water over on the Abigail thread in the Custom shop ask Mike Eldred, I may have openned wide and inserted foot

You can still get the Eko 12 string 53.

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=Eko+Ranger

Old and new on ebay. Considering that the old 70's ones sell for £70 thereabouts. You certainly got the better deal.

As for reading the latter part of the thread you mention. I don't see what the problem is.
Aside from that my low opinion of 69 pickups pretty much excludes me from commenting on them. I don't understand why Fender use their best employee on what I view as one of their worst products.
As far as machine or hand winding goes. It's another area of mythology. What's the next nonsense someone is going to spout. That the natural oils from skin change the tone of handwound pickups.
Find me a person that can wind between 4-8000 wraps onto a bobbin as accurately as a machine can, consistently. Day in, day out. Yeah theres all that about varying tension making the things sound individual. I don't view that as a strength though, much more a weakness if anything. And if you spent time programming the machines you could get em to do the same thing.
That said, you can't deny the value of experience in any walk of life. Pickup manufacture is not one I have any interest or much experience in.
