I wanted something with P90s and got a Squier Custom II Tele and I like it just about as much as by Hwy 1. Only $250 and the pups are pretty decent but could always be swapped out.

I was hunting for something P-90 earlier this year and got this:

It's a Michael Dolsey Design (MDD) and I got it on eBay. He does Righties too! It is a pretty decent guitar for the price (around $450).

Hands down and reasonably affordable for $1300 (or so) ... Gibson 1950s Les Paul Studio Tribute Electric Guitar - Worn Honey Burst

The Limited Edition Gibson 1950s Les Paul Studio Tribute Guitar features that low frills design that has made the Studio Les Paul popular among studio and live artists. Offering a 50's rounded neck and incredible finishes worn for that aged appearance, the 1950s Tribute is a powerhouse of tone with it's chambered body and powerhouse P90 pickups. The orange drop capacitors built into their tone circuit provide an authentic vintage sound.

You can't go wrong with an Epi Casino, either the standard MIC ones or the MIJ inspired by models or the original '65 or Revolution John Lennon models. These guitars just sing. You could also look into an Edwards,Greco,Burney or Orville copy of the '57 Les Paul with p-90s they are just great guitars and are a fraction of what you'd pay for a Gibson. You should look into http://www.guitarsjapan.com they have a huge selection of MIJ guitars and most are in 8.5-10 condition and even delivered to Canada are cheaper than buying here.

I got one of those Les Pauls for Christmas (in white) and it is an amazing guitar. The pickups are perfect and its well priced and feels so great!

Nevin, you could also check out the Gibson SG classic:

Go for a Guild Blues 90. Chambered body, nice beefy LP style neck, S Duncan stock pups, a really nice guitar for around $900-1000. I swapped the pups in mine and it is a beast now. These aren't that easy to find either. Very underrated axe.

If price isn't an issue, go for a Collings 290 or 360. Worth every penny.

Here's my Edwards LP Special....SD P90's. I have since removed the plastic from the pick guard....It's very nice :)

I haven't decided weather it's staying or not yet...I have an Orville Special on the way, I'll know more then :)

I wasn't familiar with Edwards guitars until I played Pat's and I must say that guitar is a little screamer, the P-90s are very much like the Gibson P-90s in tone and response and she has great sustain,of course the solid mahogany neck and body construction plays a big part in that.

I had been reading a lot of information on the Edwards LP's on another forum....they are quite the rage for a lot of players, now I know how they feel!! I was glad that one of the members decided to part with this puppy :)
