Hadn't been there in a while so I stopped by the Gibson site. They are marketing an EC 60's LP. MSRP's start at $8,468 then go to $14,706 and if you want EC to sign it it goes to $29,412! That kind of pricing would make eve alain flinch (well maybe not). Seems to be a hefty premium for EC's signature. Makes some of the custom shops look like Squire pricing! She sure is purty though.

Oh and EC gets the first 5. I wonder if he gets the signed or unsigned version?

It would be hella cheaper to buy a custom LP and then buy a VIP ticket to a Clapton show and have him sign it. If I do recall the Crash customs were around $25k though so Gibson was not the only company who had a Clapton custom at the price of a small house >_>

Wow blows my mind, IMHO I don't believe there is a guitar on the planet that is worth more then $5000.00. Unless the wood was picked by Moses from the arc and the guitar was hand carved and assembled by Eric Clapton himself, then it might be worth $10,000 Max.
:|

ok now that that is out, it is a very beautiful guitar though :) i would still want one, I bet it plays great.

With pickups hand-wound personally by Eddie Van Halen and dirt from the late great Jimi Hendrix's grave site mixed into the paint, plus a one-on-one guitar lesson from Jimmy Page with all travel included ... plus breakfast at Dennys.

They could make the exact same guitar, age and sign it and sell it on the epiphone line for 666 dollars and people would still complain "Derrr dis is exponsive stupiad gobson.A LAMO!!1 does it go EMGs"

No, this is not an attack on the OP.

I do realize they are collector guitars, that's why I don't like them. Guitars should have everything to do with "average players," as both Fender and Gibson would have failed early on without them (I doubt any collectors bought up 1954 strats when they came out, unless they had a time machine). Collector guitars are just a strategy to bring in the dough, but business is business. IMHO it's like commemorative coins, you pay $30 for something that's worth $1 because it's commemorated to something or someone and has a piece of paper with it (Except in this case it's $25k for something you can buy for $4-5k). Also like commemorative coins I feel they are pointless and stupid, but a great business strategy.

Even if I had enough money to make Bill Gates look like a pauper I wouldn't gratify Gibson to allow myself get ripped off for buying a guitar that costs $14,000 more than its exact replica just because EC scrawled his name on it.

Is a 240 mph Bugatti worth 4+ million Dollars :?: :?:

it's all in the eye of the beholder, if one has the disposable income, it is not for me to judge buy or don't buy :|

And none of them are a replica of anything. The LP in question was stolen 45yrs ago.

Hi Doc,I should have explained myself better I meant that the one with ECs signature is exactly like the other Clapton models that are currently made save for the $14,000 signature.I know the whole business of this guitar is a farce since the real one disappeared years ago.

VOS version. And he will most likely auction them off for charity.

In one of the other forums EC is auctioning of a ton of stuff for Antigua. Wouldn't be surprised if one of these showed up. I believe Bonham's is the auctioneer.

No offense taken. But the point of the comment was the $14k premium for the signature. Not the cost of the guitar. If I had the discretionay income who knows. Well maybe I'd get the Bugatti.
