The licensing agreement with the manufacturer states that the CIJ guitars are for the Japanese market only.

Occasionally, there are CIJ Fenders available. The current J Mascis Jazzmaster and the Geddy Lee Jazz Bass are both Japanese made, and I have seen new Jaguar basses that were Japanese made.

Of course, this is all subject to change.

If the Japanese made guitars have a Mexico made equivalent, then odds are that you won't see a new CIJ one in the U.S..

Before about 1998, when the Ensenada factory came on line, many Fender models that are currently offered in the U.S. as MIM (Made In Mexico) were Crafted/Made In Japan. That means that there are plenty of used Japanese Fenders out there.

Regards '50th Anniversary models', many Fenders made in 1996 had a gold 50th Anniversary sticker on the back of the headstock-including U.S. models. These often peel off with use or are removed.

Just to add, I believe that the current '60s Custom Tele with Bigsby is CIJ, as well as the '51 Precision Bass RI and the Sting Precision Bass. There there are probably more CIJ models sold in the U.S. out there, too!

I'm still PO'd that they won't import the CIJ 70's RI P bass. (the 70-78 model) I've wanted one for years. As it stands now I have a 51RI P, and a parts P with the guts from a CIJ RI 57, and the neck from a CIJ 62RI. Both killer basses.
