"What are the best pickups" is a very subjective question. While one person might prefer the sound of pickup A, another might not like it at all. The best thing for you to do is research and find some sound clips and listen for yourself. However it can also be nice to have other people's opinion and mine is that the Lace Sensors are amazing souding pickups in pretty much any guitar.

Fender Custom Shop Fat '50s Strat Pickups if you don't mind some hum!
The middle pickup is reverse wound/reverse polarity for hum canceling in positions 2 & 4.

If you're talking Blues you might want the Custom Shop Fat 50's Those are the closest to what Stevie used that Fender currently makes. I realize this is the subject of some debate on guitar boards but the truth is that despite the fact Texas Specials are standard on his signature model the Fat 50's are the Fender pups that are closest to what he used.

The Kinman Blues set are also good if you need noiseless but those are a little on the dark side. They are good sellers but they lack some of the bite of single coil Strat pups. The Woodstock set will be brighter and hotter with more bite. Roll off the throttle to clean them up. Don't opt for Woodstock "Plus" as the bridge pup is harsh and ugly sounding. The Mark III's are not as hot as the Woodstocks but they have more quack so they are a good option as well. I never tried it but I think it might be interesting to put a Woodstock in the neck for smokey soloing, a Mark III in the middle for quack and a mellow Blues at the bridge. Might be a good Blues combination.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

This is a good assessment. I like the dark sound typically so the blues set is perfect for me, but my buddy has the Woodstock set in one of his Strats and they sound super as well. It would be the ultimate Kinman set to mix and match them like you suggested.

If you want fat & meaty but still desire the spank & sparkle that a Strat typically has, check out the Pete Biltoft Vintage Vibe SP90 set...I put them in my US-made '62RI Stratocaster and they're the bomb.

My personal favorites are EMG SA's...I know he's gone awa from them but if they are good enough for Dave Gilmour they are good enough for me.

If you ask a pickup question like that, you will likely get a vote for just about every pickup out there.

Depends on what style you're playing.

It's like asking which "strings" are best.

Have to try yourself.
