+1. I find all of this stuff quite interesting, and although I do not have many antiques, I do have a rather extensive baseball card collection. At one point I would like to buy an old '30s Gibson Archtop, but that's a way away.

Great thread topic here! I must confess that I find "Antiques Roadshow" absolutely fascinating -- anyone else here watch it regularly?

Not regularly but as often as I can. Very good show. :D
And as for this thread, the oldest object I own is my old classical guitar that I bought new in 1976 when I finished High School.

Myself.

I end up selling or trading or giving away almost anything I own. That's why nobody gives me any thing old to keep.

The coolest old thing I've ever seen (aside from my reflection) is a samurai sword (katana and wakizashi) from the early 1900's. Supposedly one of the last swords made by a living samurai before they were wiped out.
Very cool indeed.

Brad you need UK daytime TV. We have this program where two teams (of two people) go off round antique fairs looking for bargains with £200 given to them by the presenter. Then they auction all their stuff off and whoever makes the most wins. It's called Bargain Hunt and was hosted by some orange bloke.

I guess the oldest thing I own would be my house. A lovely old 2 story character home, it was built in 1908 so it's 102 years old. I also have some antique furniture which I bought soley to go with the decor of the house. The oldest pieces are approximately circa 1910 - 1920 and a (non-functional) violin and bow which I have hanging on the wall from the 1930s, a housewarming gift from a friend as well as an old Orange Crush bottle, also a houswarming gift and also from approximately 1910.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

We have coins and paper money (U.S.) from the 1800s.
My oldest music gear is a 1968 Leslie 145.
Not necessarily old, but collectible: Amazing Spider-man #1 1962 (CGC 2.0)

Similar story to where I live now. 30 miles from Lincoln which was the seat of parliament and the capital of the country long before London. The place is full of history, but so run down it's unreal. If they had half a brain and improved the local road system (least dual carriageway/motorway in the country) the place would boom.

I have some photos of my dad when he was a teenager in Poland, my brother has one of my dad when he was around 4-5 months old (1913). I also have an official inaugural program from Roosevelt's first term (1933). I've collected a bunch of WW II ads which I use in class when teaching about propaganda, family documents and a couple of my dad's cameras from the 50s, albums and Hot Wheels from the 60s, some vintage race photos, and my 2 1971 Marshall amps as well as NOS tubes (Sylvania EL34s, RFTs, Brimars,Telefunkens, etc.); my son has a 1972 Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop.
That's about it.

As far as my family goes we own a rocking chair and roll top desk which has been passed down since before the civil war. But they're both in really ratty condition so I don't think they'd be worth anything. Someone decided to refinish the desk with shoe polish back in the '30s. We also have a Nazi helmet someone brought back from WWII. I would've had my great, great grandfather's banjo if it weren't for the fact that it ended up on the wrong side of a divorce. I wish at least that a blood relative had gotten it.
I would've really liked to have that, even if it does scream hillbilly.

As for me personally the oldest thing I own is the 1979 Peavey T-60 I got at a pawn shop and my parents vinyl.

It's not really mine but, My daughter plays with the Idaho State Civic Symphony. half way thru their 2nd concert this fall her bridge popped off her violin. Long story short The symphony board gave her a violin that had been donated from the family of former member. The lady purchased the violin in 1907 as a child and played it until her death. The family had no use for it as thier kids were not interested in playing it so they donated it. What a beautiful sounding violin. The local paper is going to run an article about her and the violin here shortly. I now some people might shudder about her playing it and not "preserving it" but I think it would fall apart in it's case if it were left unplayed.

Did I mention how proud I am of my daughter for sticking with it to make it this far :D
