I just finished polishing up my LP Blue 12 string MIJ Strat before I clicked on this thread! Time for new strings tomorrow. Well, past time actually - I bought them last year but changing strings isn't exactly my favorite thing to do.

Pack a lunch and plan on making a day of it.

Love to see some pics of that 12-String.

Personally, I don't think it's possible to have too many guitars; just not enough time to play them all.

Forgot about the Guild acoustic I picked up... is that 33? Almost picked up #34 today but, the Les Paul I had been eying at GC was gone when I went to check it out.

The 12 string should look like this one. Is great for power chords!

No doubt! Other than my guitar with a Floyd is my least favorite to change. This time I'm taking advantage of cheap teenage labor. Unlike the Floyd is easy - just time consuming.

Did you change the pups in yours? The Japanese do great work but I heard the pickups are kinda lame. I pretty much only use the neck pickup in mine so would be a cheap and easy swap. If I'm feeling adventurous I might pick out a little lead on it but is the wrong tool for the job for me. I use it for barre and power chords with just the neck or sometimes the mid blended in so not going to bother changing the whole set but think a better neck pup would be nice. Just haven't decided what yet.

I had a derelict set of CS '69s which I installed in mine. The difference between them and the stock pickups was like comparing a Toyota Corolla with a Lexus LS450.

That's about what I figured with the MIJ - great workmanship but poor parts. I only want to replace the neck pickup and doubt if Fender sells either the '69 or the Fat 50 neck pup by itself. Maybe they do, I've never checked. I've had good luck with Lollars though and they sell by the set or singles.

Just wondered about the bass, too. Looks crazy 8)

The crazy bass is an Ampeg Big Stud bass.
It has that "wrong" headstock ( ), which is almost as big as a Steinberger's body, and a second weird addition--a P90-esque pickup in the bridge position (and the necessary 3-way switch to select one or both pickups.
The Big Stud basses were made in Japan between 1973 and 1975, and almost all of them were stained that weird shade of "Dog Urine Yellow" clear coat. The details were/are pretty good--strong pickups, pretty mother-of-pearl block inlays/pickguard, bound neck--but the tuners are "meh" and the body is plywood--which they didn't even try to camouflage in any way; you can see the layers of plies on the edge of the body. The neck is HUGE. Originally, there was a bridge cover and a plate covering over the middle pickup (like a First-Generation Precision), but somebody removed them before I received the instrument.

One of the previous owners thought that he was Bootsy Collins; he painted "Mr. Cosmic" with a star beside it with red nail polish on the case. Worse yet, he hammered thumbtacks all along the edge of the body and headstock and drilled dozens of tiny holes all over the body, in which he glued tiny rhinestones (all but one have since fallen out).
The moral of that story: Kids, don't do drugs.
I was going to pull out all the tacks and refinish the body, but after looking at it for a while, I decided it looks like a Mexican saddle and I kept it as-is.
A (now-deceased) friend bought it at a garage sale for $5 and gave it to me, so it has some sentimental value as well.

Overall, it sounds great and looks pretty cool. The Armadillo Teen is using it for bass lessons, even though it weighs almost as much as she does...she is planning on putting the rhinestones back in it.

The double-Humbuckered G&L is a 1980 G&L F-100. It is one of the few guitars I own that has not been modified in any way.
The F-100 was one of the first models that Leo Fender designed when he formed G&L with George Fullerton and Dale Hyatt. They had two phase- and coil-tapped Magnetic Field Design (MFD) humbuckers, and a 3-way switch.
This F-100 is kinda unique; it has a mahogany body (most were ash or poplar, and a few were maple). My baby has a ebony fretboard (most were maple) and the less-common Series II neck (the Series I and Series II were all made concurrently, but Series I has a 7.25" radius and Series II has a flatter 12" radius). It also has a the less-common hard-tail bridge (most were tremolo, or "Rubber Butt" as my acquaintance Dink calls them) and the original-style G&L headstock. Many of these guitars had active electronics, but this one is passive. It has a very early serial number, and is amongst the first G&Ls to leave the factory.
A couple of G&L enthusiasts/experts have commented that it has a very unique set of features for that model.
It's also the first electric guitar I ever bought, so besides being a fabulous instrument, it has a lot of sentimental value.

**Note: I corrected a few things I mis-typed or mis-remembered when I first posted. Getting old stinks.

I've been wondering about that Tele Bass too! Didn't suspect it of being an Ampeg though. I saw a Fender Tele Bass at a store once - it had that same color you described but way different headstock. He had just bought it at a yardsale and stopped in to ask how much it was worth.

Here's a pic of my Tele Bass with N3's. Unfortunately the Rumble 150 is gone. Would blow the preamp section in less than an hour. After the second time I took it back for a refund and was going to get a new Rumble 100 but ended up getting a used laptop for my son. Now it's back to the Peavey amp while I save up for the new Rumble. Even after the preamp would blow it still sounded great if I added a bass OD pedal. Maybe better than it did with working overdrive section and no pedal. I'm sure the Rumble 100 with a 12 inch speaker will be more house-friendly than the 150 with a 15 inch but I have an outdoor festival coming up and was counting on the 150. Too bad I didn't have enough time left on the warranty to hang on to it till then and just add the petal.

My Brother-In-Law plays a Fender Precision through a Rumble 100 at outdoor shows all the time and has no problem being heard well. It is a strong amp. No worries fenderfan. 8)
