I know this is not a Fender product, but I thought I would ask anyways. I received a Fishman Rare Earth Humbucker Magnetic Acoustic Pickup for Christmas. I installed it, plugged in a cable from the amp to the female end of the pickups cable, and turned up the volume. All I get is a noise from the amp turned on and something plugged into it. The volume on the pickup is cranked, yet no sound is coming from the pickup when I play the guitar. Everything is installed correctly, yet it is not working. HELP!!

How new are the batteries on your RareEarth? The one problem I had with the RareEarth back in the early 2000s was the pickup ate batteries like crazy. Perhaps Fishman addressed this problem. Now I use the K&K sensor pickup which is just as powerfull as the RareEarth and it's not active (no batteries needed).

Good luck with the Fishman.

Check your instrument cable as well. A cable tester is invaluable for situations like this. You can also do it with a multi-meter if you know how to use one but a good cable tester takes the guess work out of it and is much much faster: important at a gig.

Required gear for any guitarist or bassist: (IMO)
Quality tuner
Cable tester
Battery tester (for active instruments)
Quality DI box

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
