Hi TurnerGK,

You could loosen the truss rod adjust a little bit (CCW), which will put a little more bow in the neck and raise the action a little and help with any rattling of the strings. You can do this with the strings on and tuned to pitch, just insert the wrench between the middle strings and push them aside to adjust. A quarter turn will be a big adjustment, try an eighth of a turn and check, adjust more if necessary. The adjustment is accessible through the sound hole, the body end of the neck has an Allen head screw to adjust the truss rod, adjusting the bow in the neck. If adjustment of the truss rod puts too much bow in the neck, an alternative would be to use a thin rosewood shim under the removable slanted white piece on the bridge.

Sorry TurnerGK,

The truss rod is just a metal rod that is built into the inside of the neck. This rod can adjust the amount of bow (curve) in the neck to set the height of the strings above the fretboard of the neck. Usually raising the height of the strings will reduce any rattle that you may have. The adjustment is just an Allen head, accessible through the sound hole (big hole in the guitar body) at the body end of the neck. Nearly any music store can adjust it for you, at little-to-no cost. Maybe the shop that you bought it from could do it for you. :)

Shim's advice is A1 excellent.
But given your lack of experience with guitar tinkering TurnerGK, I strongly recommend you don't touch the guitar. You could inadvertently ruin it by going overboard with adjustments. You're far better off to leave it alone, be patient and have someone in the know look at it.
Also if the guitar is electro acoustic don't let anyone shim the bridge. It will ruin the plugged in sound by stopping contact between the saddle and the piezo pickup. It's a trick that works great for traditional acoustics but does impair electro acoustics.
Still don't suppose your worrying about that at the moment.

Just try and be patient and it may be worth trying to hit the strings softer, see if that gets you anywhere.

Merry Christmas all.
