Their reverb pedal is first rate and I usually don't like digital reverb. I've built a good bit of BYOC stuff for myself and friends.

The Electro Harmonix Cathedral is a phenominal pedal and has about 5 different reverbs including :plate, hall, room etc. plus an echo function all for about $150.they also make the Memory Boy,Memory Toy,Memory Man,and a few more at very cheap prices.Their pedals are very rugged and will last eons.

I will second the Cathedral. I'm not normally one to go for a digital reverb but this one is great. From, subtle, to surf, to outer space madness. It even has a very short delay and a button that will sustain the reverb trail for you (cool).

Not that EH holy grail reverb is a bad pedal, It sounded great when it was not malfunctioning. However, I would avoid the recent production models (from 2005) as I had nothing but problems with mine. It would totaly fail, switching problems, connection problems. Mine was a POS. 1 year warranty. Sold it back to the people I purchased it from "as was" for a loss of $45. I should have took heed in the reviews of Harmonycentral. I'm not affiliated with BYOC, however they supply some great high quality kits.

+1 for the BYOC products.

I noticed that the Antique Electronic Supply is running a December Special on "The Verb" kit for $67.00.

It looks decent enough, Belton Module based unit, quite a nice looking pre-painted enclosure, although you would need to work on soldering skills to tackle it.

No idea how it sounds, though.

All the Belton brick-based spring reverb emulators I've heard (and owned in a few cases) have been very good...

Hermida Reverb is probably the best value for money ($100 or so); Hermida also sells the same pedal in kit form through General Guitar Gadgets for about $60.

Mr Springgy by Lee Jackson is more pricey but has some useful wet/dry output options.

Malekko Spring Chicken is my favourite, but stupidly expensive second-hand at the moment. The expression pedal input on these is a great feature. The Chicklet (its miniature sized replacement) is good, too, but lacks that certain something. Still, at least it's readily available.

Brian Neunaber (inventor of the Belton "brick" that all listed above bar the Chicklet feature) has come up with new technology and produces the WET reverb, which many players seem to love. I've not tried it myself, as I'm happy with my Spring Chicken (and should probably sell my Mr Springgy as it's sat in a cupboard for over a year now, nice though it is)... good luck with the search...

I like the Hermida reverb. One knob, silent operation, true bypass, $110 shipped, sounds great. 8)

Ryan with the happy cat,

Soldering can be mastered. Even if not, it is essential to have the proper tools to build. I don't know if you have the proper soldering equipment but there are some good info DIY on soldering on the web. For tools, I would recommend a 15-25 watt soldering iron with a pencil tip. But if you plan on using it for other things then a variable temperature type like a Weller WLC-100 or better. and use very thin RA flux 22 gauge solder when working with small PCBs. You can also get a solder remover to practice.

Nevertheless BYOC give a free "Confidence Booster" kit for the 1st time customer that can be used for practice.
